![]() | Multiple 700wx issues - Alarms/BT/Sync(Sucks...) So, my 650p had a meltdown in the transcirver (would start to power but fail to activate phone or BT), so VZW upgraded me to a new WX. It was great for about 6 weeks, then started getting weird crashes and flaws. 1) I've managed to fix most of the flaws (had to dump Avantgo and Cubis) but now the custom tone (any tone-stock or mp3's I edited) for my Calendar Reminders will not play. The Voice Command will announce the FIRST appointment after I reset my WX, but then will not announce any other appointment - It will announce incoming calls & custom ringtones on calls/missed/VMS/Text & Email works also. Yeah, weird... 2) My BT (Moto 850) has a staticy/noisey connection on the 1st call of the day after I power it. Later in the day, it will occasionally (appx once a week) do the same thing on a random call, or it will shut off the BT & I have to reset the WX to get it to stay on. 3) With ActivSync 4.5.0, I can't remember/find how to get my WX to overwrite Outlook 2003. Also, when I tried to get it to sync, I get a "server is busy" message with an 18005605 (or someodd number) pop-up. 4) Last issue - anyone know how to get my EVDO data 'live-time' to stay connected longer. It seems to drop the internet after appx 30 seconds, so if I try to get an email or load a program-it times out & fouls everything up. On the plus side, I have MS Reader, so I can have books on my phone! Also, I discovered how to rip my DVD's to a WMV format so I can watch them in traffic (when it would sync...) |

![]() | Sorry that I can' t answer ANY of your questions, looking at the date on this, you've probably figured it all out by now. I'm still learning!! I was curious to know how you're able to read books on your phone. I would love to do that!! Would love to watch movies too but I can't even get a video clip to play clearly. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Layisblessed, I have enjoyed watching movies on Chauncey the 700wx for more hours than is decent! I do have a couple of recommendations for you. First of all, you must get the right DVD ripper. The best one I have found is called MagicDVD Ripper. (Appropriately enough!) There are many other programs that will do the same thing, but I like this one the best. Secondly, you may consider getting the SDHC card hack mentioned in the SD card threads. This will enable you to use 4GB SDHC cards, and thus get more movies on each card. Once you have ripped the movie, by placing DVD of choice into your PC’s DVD player, select the format "WMV8PocketPC", from the scroll down options. Backup only the main movie, by clicking on the "backup" tab. Then convert, by clicking on the "convert" tab. The software will then make a small size file in WMV format. I set it up so the destination folder is on my “desktop”. After conversion, which will take anywhere from 20 minutes to half an hour depending on the file size, I find the folder on the desktop, and rename it immediately, before I forget what it was! Put your SD card into a card reader, then open it up. Make a folder called “movies” or whatever you want to call it. Drag and drop the WMV file from your desktop to the SD card. Put SD card into 700wx. Open up Windows Media player>Menu>Library>UpdateLibrary…wait, wait, wait,….then click Done. Now, whenever you click “library” a choice will come up; “My Device/Storage Card” Click on Storage Card, and your movie should be in there (If you renamed it while on PC) The rest is easy to figure out once you’ve gotten that far. I miss the 700wx’s ability to watch movies in landscape view! Oh well. The Pro can read 32GB cards, so that is better. Use headphones…..wow…great fun. Enjoy, eclair |

![]() | I didn't even know they had 32GB cards!!! Wow!! I did get the hack you mentioned and I bought a 8GB card b/c it was on sale and cheaper than the 4GB. Of course, the hack only reads half of it but I don't have much on it anyway so, oh well. The instructions you gave sound complicated but I'll give it a go when I feel confident enough. LOL! What other programs would you recommend? I'm not even sure what I should have, let alone what I want. I'm mostly interested in games (puzzle, card, and board games) but I find it hard to get (freeware) games that fit the 240x240 screen. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Congratulations on getting the hack Layisblessed! I probably made the instructions sound harder than it is, but wanted to be as complete as possible. I, too, got the 8gb card for the 700wx, and was hoping to find a hack that worked. I just ended up with an 8 gb card I can only use part of. Some programs you might want would be: Vito Sound Explorer = GREAT app for dictation, recording lectures, etc. Easy to use and converts for either WMP or generic MP3 files that are compressed in size. Programmable from the today screen or buttons, you choose. Docs to Go = Pretty much need to have if you get a lot of email attachments and do some editing on forms. The PDF portion of the app is nicer than the included one w/700wx. There are many other niceties, worth the cost. Handy Switcher = gives you a soft reset button on the home screen, if you want it. This is great for eliminating the dreaded taking the case, and back cover off...bla bla bla you know the routine. It includes a screen capture utility, and its own today screen shortcut menu that (once you get to know it) that enables stuff like screen brightness, memory, today screen, sound settings, running programs. to be one click accessible from the lower tray icon on home screen. It also has A CLOSE BUTTON THAT REALLY CLOSES! so from home screen you can do all this stuff! WARNING: If you install Handy Switcher, it will disable the landscape viewing! A bummer for this otherwise great app. (you can always re-install handy switcher if you have the cab on your SD card after the movie is over) Smart Tweeker, by jooping = categories of tweeks for Utilities, Internet, Sound, System and Telephony that only improve your already wonderful device, and are just a few clicks away. The settings can be easily reversed if you discover they are not to your liking. I especially like some of their toggle settings which are shortcuts to toggle settings. You can kill the boot up melody, loop your ringtones(this is a good one!)Silence the camera shutter sound, store your ringtones on your SD card ( another good one) The “system” tweeks include BIG SMS Email fonts, force “Ask Install Location” Grid view toggle. I could go on , but won’t. SK Tools= a must have, in my opinion. There is a “free up ram” utility that, if used religiously, will free up ram on the 700wx, so in effect, you have more memory than you have (????,) The “auto clean” setting cleans up bad shortcuts and other junk. It has a duplicate contacts manager, manage past appointments, all kinds of PIM managers, and Contact importer/exporter/ dupe appts. Etc. Chock full o’ goodies. If you go to their website (just type in sk tools) the list is formidably long. Worth twice the price. Scan2PDF = nice little app that lets you take a photo of the library book, or whiteboard, or whatever, and makes that photo into a PDF. Porta+PrivateNotes = listmaking thingie, and file encryption! A must for folks who work with confidential matters. ListPro = another list program. This one has the advantage of many hundreds of pre made lists, inventory, mileage, shopping, collections. The files can also be encrypted Metro = freeware, has metro maps with directions for cities all over the world. It is simplistic, and includes directions to how to get there from here kind of thing. It gives walking version and metro version. Download only the cities that you need to have. Good for multiple city overseas trips. I have it but have not used it yet. It looks like it may come in handy, but maybe more work than it is worth. PitchPerfect = freeware strobe-like music tuner. Use to tune your guitar, or trombone. (Or learn to sing the right pitch) TempoPerfect = freeware metronome! I use this all the time. Nice, but not loud enough for some people. (Those people need electric shock metronomes anyway) Pocket Piano= freeware, but stupid. It shows a piano keyboard, and you can click on a key and it gives a tinny MIDI sound, only one note at a time. It only has one octave. I just use it every now and then. Keylight = freeware. I ALWAYS use this unless typing in the dark. It is a switch to turn off the keyboard lights, saves a ton of battery life. I also use this on my Pro, but a different version. I forgot where I found it, sorry, but a search will probably turn up something. Most of this stuff was installed on SD card. Keylights should be installed in the phone memory. There is so much more to mention, but the list would take up another page! Have fun browsing. If you need links, let me know. Last edited by eclair; 11-02-2009 at 06:09 PM.
