Wireless sync creates duplicate appointments with Notes

I think I have isolated the problem to this sequence of events:

1. I set up a recurring meeting in Lotus Notes (we're running version 6.5.2 here) which synced correctly. Let's say it's a weekly staff meeting every Tuesday.

2. Later I change one of the entries in the recurring meetings, say, I am out of the office and cancel the weekly staff meeting.

3. Next time I sync, a whole new series of appointments are created for the weekly staff meeting and added to the calendar. The original meetings are still there so now I have 2 (or 3 or 4) entries for the same meeting. It all looks very cluttered on my calendar. (Everything looks fine in Notes, it's only in my calendar on the Treo.)

This was a problem last time I used Intellisync, which was on a Dell Axim PPC. I switched to Commontime mNotes and that worked flawlessly. I'm disappointed that Intellisync hasn't managed to fix this bug.

In the meantime, what are my options for dealing with this?
