Unhappy GSM unlocked

I got the email from Palm also. I downloaded the update and was going through the process when it stopped and I got a screen that said, "Unsupported Device". I then read through the faqs. It turns out that the upgrade is for branded phones only. So because I bought a GSM unlocked at twice the price, I won't be able to upgrade my treo 680?

My 750 changed to ATT a few weeks ago. It just has to propagate through the network. My guess is by the end of the month no one will have Cingular anymore . My most recent bill is mostly at&t with a little cingular is now... in it.

There should be a different download for unlocked phones. If it's not available yet, I suspect it should be in the next few days.

Thanks to all that have posted so far. Many people will have many questions regarding this update. I, as well as everyone needing your help, ask that you continue to update this thread as to the workings of your phone after this update. Any piece of information is most helpful. I have seen a Palm Tech on here once or twice. So, if an issue does come about, they may see it.

Of course, don't forget to e-mail palm with any issues.

I installed the update. The install went fine and then when it was finished the phone was stuck in a loop. Luckily I had made a backup right before I installed the update. Did a hard reset...did a restore and everything is now updated to att. Everything I have tested so far has been working just fine...maybe a little faster now too.

Okay,

So I understand, and others as well. You installed the update, your phone was in a loop, and after a hard reset, you still had the update on your phone?

Yes. After the hard reset and the restore everything is still up to date.

The first time I tried the update, it didn't really do anything for some reason. I know everything was plugged in right. But . . . anyway, when it said it was finished, my Treo immediately went into a reset loop. I had to hard reset to get out of it. Then I ran the updater again and this time everything worked fine. Then I just restored the NVBackup I created right before running the update. Aside from having to re-enter some reg information, everything seems to be working fine, right now.

I did my update via SD card and it went fine. I had to re-enter my serial number for Treo Launcher, but other than that everything so far is fine.

So it's like installing Service Pack 2 on a machine that has all kinds of spyware, you have to reformat and reinstall?
