Exclamation Treo 680 Gibberish and Cingular....

I'm wondering if there are potentially differences in firmware across Cingulars release of the 680. Could I get some replies from 680 users on their firmware? I need to know when you got it, where you got it (as in city, state), is it locked or unlocked, if it is unlocked is that from Palm or did you do it, is your SIM card 3G or not, and your firmware and software versions. If I can get this info from various 680 users maybe we can find a correlation between all the problems people have been having.

To find your phones firmware and software versions go to the phone application, then hit the Menu Button>Options>Phone Info or just the Menu Button and the letter I.

With luck, maybe we can figure this out!

I have an unlocked 680 that I bought from Palm, and I am using with a Cingular SIM card that I ordered online that came with a Motorola L2. It has the 3G logo on it.

I am NOT having the phone gibberish lockup problem.

Firmware: MW01.50
Software: TREO680-1.04-ROW
Carrier DB: 355
Hardware: A

Also, in case it matters, I live in Madison, WI.

I hope that helps.

I was having the gibberish problem, frequest locks, nothing really working right.
Did a hard reset, but renamed moved my backup directory before resync.
Been adding the apps back 1 at a time, until I see which one made it happen.

Firmware: R01.31
Software: TREO680-1.03-CNG
Hardware: A

Got it in Philly, weekend 680 came out.

No problems on mine, but a buddy of mine bought two from the same store as me (the next day) and BOTH have the problem. Come to think of it, his SIM cards may still be the old AT&T ones. I have the latest 64K SIM (I've also been with Cingular since the first year of Pacific Bell Wireless so there weren't any other transition issues).

Also, it can't be a third party software problem... one of the phones has *never* even been HotSynced, it's only been used as a phone!

My phone stats:
Firmware: R01.31
Software: TREO680-1.03-CNG
CC-Cap: 000-000-000
Carrier DB: 292
Hardware: A

Are any of you with the Gibberish problem converts from the AT&T merger?

If you mean the odd characters in place of "Cingular" in the upper left screen in the phone app, I just noticed that today. My 680 was delivered yesterday. Cingular, the SIM has the 3g logo.

Firmware: R01.31
Software: TREO680-1.03-CNG
Carrier DB: 292
Hardware: A

Here is a scan of my SIM card. I am NOT having any problems with gibberish or garbled text on my 680, but two other 680s from the same store, bought at the same time DO have the problem:

I am SO convinced it's the SIM causing the problem...
