680 is chronically frozen!!

I have just spent a great deal of time (that I really didn't have to begin with) reprogramming this 680 that I just got. This is the 2nd 680 in less than 24
hours that I've had this problem of it completely freezing up in spite of doing countless soft, system, and hard resets on. And, not to mention the brand-new 650 I had initially about 48 hours ago that went totally haywire, as well. I am literally about ready to have a complete come-apart. Does anyone have ANY input to offer (not regarding my sanity, but rather regarding this ridiculous phone)? I have NO other applications on the phone other than was was installed on the user CD. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Slightly confused by your statement, you say you spent a great deal of time reprogramming the 680 yet you haven't put any applications on the phone, can you explain what you mean by reprogramming.

Welcome to Treonauts lindsay, I'm understanding this as contacts memo's that sort of data? Did you put the information on manually?

yes.......only because the hotsync didn't work with the 680 that I had and ultimately all of my data was lost, because..........the idiots at Palm advised me over the phone to delete certain files (in an effort to correct the hotsync issue), and as my luck would have it, my data was on those files.......real cute, huh?

So really you have 2 problems, an issue with hotsync and your treo freezing.

Ok, lets try and sort these issues out, there's something corrupt that's causing your Treo to freeze by the sounds of things,(was wondering if you beamed the info from one Treo to the other?).

Have you still got the backup files from your original installation of Palmdesktop? If so go to C;/programfiles/palmone/userID copy the file and paste it somewhere else on your computer. Also copy alist of any memo's and contacts, you might have to put these in manually.(Any apps you might want from your old backup folder you can put on one at a time to see if they work ok)

Next completely remove Palmdesktop start:/controlpanel/addremove and make sure that there's no files left over.

Another thought have you done any windows updates on your PC recently, I think the latest update has caused hotsync issues, if you have you will need to remove the update from your PC.

Now install the palmdesktop from scratch, one thing I didn't do when I installed palmdesktop was to tick the box that said get the latest internet settings,(not sure if that option is available on the 680?).See if you can now complete the installtion without any problem. Let me know how you get on.

Now it's completely frozen again...........this is the exact same thing that happened to the other 680 I had for a a few short hours. There are no applications on it except whatever came on the installation CD. The only thing that is appearing is the screen that has the red bulls-eye in the middle that indicates to use sylus to tap center of target. The only thing that it will do is if you press the end call key it will go into standby, or whatever you call it...........and then if you hit the end call key again it will come back up (the same screen with the bulls-eye, except now the bulls-eye will be in an different place on the screen).........but, none of the other keys do anything, nor does the stylus.....in fact, I can't even turn it on or off. Nothing. I tried to perform a hotsync.......Nothing happened. I guess I'll be off to the cingular store again this morning. I wish I had a choice of something else that was comparable and would meet my needs. I feel very dissappointed with this phone.

Sorry your having such problems. I forgot to get you to preform a hard rest before you installed (did you do that?)

What does the phone behave like before you try and install the desktop?
