Question Wi-Fi SD Card and data charges from my carrier?

I just bought (and am excitedly awaiting delivery of) an unlocked Treo 750 and an accompanying wi-fi SD card. In preparation, I've begun trying to figure out how the SD card will work with my mobile carrier, T-Mobile.

I've been getting the run-around from different T-Mobile representatives on what will happen when I use my wi-fi with the phone.

1) One representative informed me that I will not be charged by T-mobile, if I'm using "a phone which has built-in wi-fi capability" (he didn't seem to understand what a wi-fi SD card is). He said I would only get charged if I use the data (internet usage) over their network, which is $24.99 per month. He didn't know what to say when I asked how T-Mobile knows whether I'm using their network.

2) The next representative said that, if I accessed the internet on my phone AT ALL without a data plan, T-Mobile would know, and I'd be charged for each minute of use, regardless of whether I'm using wi-fi -- even the wi-fi at my house or at work. Now, that's just not fair. Still, I want to know before I start surfing.

So which is it? I'm so confused! I could always take out the SIM card to use the internet, but that's an annoying idea.

Has anyone had any good luck with ferreting out the truth when it comes to stuff like this? I'm perplexed as I can get--

Thank you in advance!

It's number one, if you use Wi-Fi then it doesn't go across the celular network so therefore no charge

yea well I got one (sandisk) for my Motorola q9c and of course i figured it was prefectly ok just to jump on my wireless network that i pay comcast plenty for. the end of the month comes around and bamm! there it it is $80 or so bucks for internet usage... thanks alot verizon... but when i turn my phone service off, i guess like airplane mode or whatever then they dont charge me i guess they cant see the data usage??? and yes i know exactly what you mean about them not understanding you when you ask them technical questions.... This is my question: is this legal?...... And yes, what about the people that have BULIT IN wi-fi?

I wasn't aware that the Wi-Fi cards worked on Palm phones. Let us know if it works.
