| Treo 680 and Garmin Mobile 20? Has anyone else tried to use the Garmin Mobile 20 with a 680? And if so, did you manage to get the hands-free BT to work?
I've gotten fed up with TomTom's policy about (non-)updating of maps, so I got a Garmin Mobile 20 to use with my new 680. The GPS navigation works more or less fine, and the all-in-one combination of GPS and powered mount for the Treo is nice.
But I can't get the Hands-free phone feature to work. First of all, apparently the Treo doesn't support multiple simultaneous BT connections, so you wouldn't be able to use the BT-phone and the navigation system at the same time. But even with navigation off, I can't get it to work.
The Treo pairs fine with the Garmin unit, which beeps and shows a steady green light (as it should) when the Treo is nearby or in the mount. But I can't get any audio from it on either incoming or outgoing calls. The call gets routed to the Mobile 20 unit, and isn't audible on the Treo (unless I shut off the BT connection), but there's also no sound from the speaker in the Mobile 20. Touching the button on the mount when a call is in progress just hangs up the call.
I should say that I got no manual with the Mobile 20 (though there apparently is one, and others who bought this did get a manual). Garmin tries to insist that it's available on line, but in fact the link they provide just leads to a "nothing found" message. They claim the manual is "out of stock" and so they can't send me a paper copy, either. But someone posted most of the actual content of the manual to another discussion group, and there's nothing there that helps at all with the non-responsiveness problem.
This product shows a lot of promise, and would be a good match for the Treo 680 if it worked, but so far it only works as a navigation system, and so the additional promise is unrealized. |
