| Treo won't read my SIM card! Hey all -
I am new around here so I apologize in advance if I break any of those "unwritten forum laws". Anyway, I recently came into the possession of two Treo 650s - an operational one, and a fully dead one. So, eager to see how I well I liked the Treo, I took the two under a little Frankenstein surgery, swapping lcd screens. Now, I have a Treo 650 that works almost perfectly. The LCD works and so do all the PDA functions. However, it now will not accept my SIM card! Every time I insert my SIM and power on, I get a message reading: "Your phone cannot be used with this SIM card".
I am a Cingular customer and both the phone and SIM cards are Cingular products, so it is not like I am trying to use a foreign SIM in a subsidy-locked phone. Knowing I do not have a data plan, I figured perhaps that was my problem. Yet when I inserted a fully-active SIM from a family member's new 680, I got the same problem!
My last thought was that perhaps when I put the Treo back together, maybe I screwed up in the area that holds the SIM card. However, when I tried powering on the phone without any SIM, I got a different message, indicating that I have either incorrectly inserted the SIM or it is damaged.
So what is my problem here? My phone and SIM are both Cingular, and it will not only reject my SIM, but the one that it used to run off of, and yet I know it still has the capacity to read the SIM! What can I do?
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered! Happy Holidays!
