| Importantly, did you get the user manual along with the phone? I'd be as concerned about your mother having a solid resource at her fingertips whenever she has a question -- as I would be with getting an answer to your specific questions.
In the meantime, here are a few answers:
Volume settings for the phone are accessed by first activating the phone screen, then hitting the "drop down menu" button, selecting "Options" and then "Sound Preferences."
Palms' website offers several versions of Palm Desktop, which will essentially "mirror" your Centro to your desktop -- these are free. The act of synchronizing is called Hot-synching, and you just need a special cable to do that -- it may have come with the phone?
Personally, I just LOVE this aspect of the Centro (and all Palm's) because I spend a lot of time in front of the computer -- where I just as often need to access or input info to my Centro.
