Red face Treo 755P Fatally Frozen!

Well it's happened. My Verizon Treo 755P has frozen on the "Access Powered" screen and neither a soft/warm or hard reset will clear it. In fact, while performing a Hard reset, the screen WILL change to the screen asking you to push the 5 way button up or down arrow,..and after choosing the up arrow (for the hard reset),..it goes right back to the Access Powered" screen.
I called Verizon Tech Support and after spending an hour on the phone with them,...they're sending me a replacement phone.
I've been searching all over the net for others who have posted this very same problem and I've found many both on Sprint and Verizon. Also, more than a few users claimed having Bluetooth headset pairing issues with their 755P's and one user actually posted a reply he got from Aliph (makers of the Jawbone headset,..the same one that I use), and in that post the Aliph rep said they're aware of the compatibility issues the Jawbone is having with CDMA phones and evidently will be specifically issuing a CDMA designed Jawbone in late June or early July,..and to call Jawbone to arrange sending your existing Jawbone back for credit (to the place you purchased it?)

Prior to this I had other issues such as the device slowing up, powering off and then on by itself,..and freezing up,..which would always correct with a soft reset,..and my hotsyncing wasn't working either. The only back up I have is from the INITIAL hotsync when I got the pone back in December! This will be a lesson well learned and from this point out I'll be backing up directly to the mini SD card in the device as well as my computer (one THAT hotsync issue is resolved!!)
I'm truly hoping this issue with my 755P is not an ongoing one. If so I'll totally lose all faith in Palm products. That IPhone is REALLY looking more and more attractive....if I could only get one running Palm OS......

Eeeek! So sorry to hear about your problems! Hopefully these issues were isolated to that particular device and the new one will be fine. For what it's worth, I can offer that I've had my 755p (Sprint) since May 2007 and have truly had no problems with the device itself. No device lagging, power issues, freezes etc. The only (and few) hiccups/conflicts I've had were application related, 3rd party apps that I installed and related to needing updated versions. There is hope. Please let us know how your replacement works out!

Tonight my 2nd 755p bit the dust. Out of nowhere the WCOD (white screen of death - Access Powered). This one was only 4 months old. Like the first one (the first lasted less than a month). This time the only warning that something was going wrong was people were complaining they could not hear me very well.

According to Alltel, there have been lots of problems with this phone. Tomorrow when I go to Alltel I'm hoping that since this is my 2nd defective one I get to pick out a different phone. I'm not sure I want another Treo.

Has anyone else had this many issues with this phone?

welcome to treonauts angie Sorry you have had these problems. You seem to have had bad luck with the first two. maybe the third time will be the charm. Good luck and I hope you stick with us and our devices.

Angie,

Sorry to hear about your experiences. Unfortunately, in my opinion, Palm does not pay enough attention to quality control. However, sometimes third party applications can cause issues like the White Screen of Death. I have had a 755p since October, with absolutely no hardware issues thus far. Anyway, like Jfa, I hope you will give another go at a Treo as I think you will enjoy it if you get one working long enough.

Stu

I have an Alltel 755p and have only had one problem and that was with it roaming on Crickett when I'm at work. This has miraculously cleared up on it's on and I haven't had any problems. They said that it was an issue with not having roaming reciprocity with Crickett, but oddly enough the problem seems to be remedied. But I won't look a gift horse in the mouth, I'm happy.

My local store isn't reporting any large number of problems with this phone and honestly, I haven't read on any board of Alltel users having significant problems with it either.

Not to blame the victim, but do you have any 3rd party applications on your device and did you upgrade from a previous Palm device? I love my Treo and am happy to report that other than my previously indicated problem I'm in love with mine.

Like Ohappydaye stated, some 3rd application can cause issues with your device. If you loaded the back up from the old 755 in to your new one, you could have uploaded the corrupt data. If that is not the issue, then it could be the Alltel version of the ROM.

I have had my 755P with no issues and only have 9 mb of space left. I hope that you don't change your mind but I can understand your frustration with the device. Good luck if you decide to leave the Treo line.

Update:Replacement T755P

I wanted to write a quick update from my post a month ago on having the WSOD (White Screen of Death)"Access Powered" on my then 4 month old T755P/Verizon. I spoke with both Verizon and Palm tech support's highest tech's (at least the highest ones you can get ahold of through call-in support) and none of them were able to remedy my problem,..and I was sent a new T755P.
Verizon had assisted me with reprogramming my old T650 until I got the new devise and that old device totally stepped up to the plate and performed well.
Having received the new replacement T755P, I'm happy to say all of my former problems are gone and the new devise is performing as originally expected. All of the buttons are working quickly and the devise shows little to no signs of lag. My hot syncs are now working successfully every single time (I back up twice a week) and my only complaint is with my Jawbone BT headset (which is NOT a recommended device for the T755P) in that is often becomes unpaired with the Treo. I had read somewhere in a treocentral forum that another user upon having the same issue with his Jawbone, got in touch with the company and was told they were designing a new Jawbone to be compatible with the T755P and it would be to market in June,..and that "old" Jawbones could be exchanged for this new one.

Has anyone else had this issue or have you heard of this possible exchange?

Thanks,
Jeff

So glad to hear both that you have a new working phone, and that your customer service experience was so good. I have heard of these problems with the Jawbone as well, but had not heard of the exchange possibility. My recommendation would be to write the manufacturer and see what they say. As I recall the new Jawbone is suppose to be out soon.
