Sprint EVDO availability in North California

I have checked the EVDO coverage and so far EVDO coverage has not moved as fast as they said it was going to be rolled out. I'm in Modesto, California and my closest EVDO point to the north is Elk Grove and West is right after Tracy on the San Joquin limit. I was told that July would be the ETA. What is taking them so long? Are we getting EVDO or what???

Sorry Treolo, I've been trawling a bit on and off to get you some answers but I just can't find their roll out plans anywhere.

I know how you feel. For ages I sat idly by as DSL and cable modems were rolled and trialed out seemingly everywhere but my postcode. IT was almost as if they were mocking me.

So if it's any help it seem that evdo-coverage has a range of tool that can help improve your reception once it gets nearby. I've never used them so can't recommend them.

Skoenig, it seems that it is getting closer. West Stockton seems to be having REV A available and it is getting closer to my area

Yesterday I was drive down the 120 and it seems that I was getting EVDO even past Tracy. I have also called Sprint and they are telling me that EVDO is getting much closer to my area and promised that by Christmas EVDO might be home I guess that will be my Christmas present from Sprint.

Yes, yesterday a co-worker showed me his Verizon Treo 700w streaming data on EVDO. I was like "No way...!!!" But it was true. I went to the Modesto Verizon store and I was told that they just rolled out EVDO on October 31st. I called my local Sprint store and they could not believe it. They doubt it so much that they actually put me on hold and called Verizon and they were told that it was true. The Sprint lady sounded so down about it that I felt sorry for them. Anyways, I just wanted to post an update on the subject. My guess is that Sprint might be getting EVDO pretty soon in Modesto.

I can sense the anticipation in your post... it make a massive difference... here on the coast if I go into the Marina EvDO stops and I fall back to terrible speeds so I know how you feel.

Oh dear poor Sprint...they got to be flip flopping each other all around the edges. One thing is for sure they're both really behind at as it allows them to charge relative large fees for access... There a post elsewhere about the Sprint EvDO service charges - I found the one webpage on sprint which explains them ALL including Phone as Modem and their quirky SprintTV Unlimited (which is limited).

Post back when you get it and I'll run you through the ins and outs...

And when you do get EvDO, buy yourself a Slingbox and don't bother subscribing to TV just watch your own cable box... anywhere...i do and it's absolutely brilliant.

If you want to try it out I can PM you my box id...I can't tell from our profile which Treo you have but the Slingbox software curent support the 700w/wx only (no Palm OS version yet )

Congratulations! I must say I'm green with envy as I sit here in SW Missouri - not holding my breath - awaiting EVDO's arrival.... yeah, right!
