Update on SERO plans

I found this website last night that has a very simple summary of SERO and the process of how to get it. There have evidently been some changes in the process for new customers getting SERO. The corporate discounts are no longer going to be allowed on SERO plans, and getting the plan is a bit more restrictive then it once was. Nevertheless, it remains the best plan out there for smartphones.

Sprint SERO Plan NOW for EVERYONE!!!

They really don't ask for verification that you're employed at a large company? That has to be so illegal...

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but things have changed at Sprint. I lurk on the BuzzAboutWireless message boards that Sprint runs, and have seen some interesting posts from "official" employees and others "in the know".

1. SERO no longer exists. It is now the Everything Plus Referral Plan. And you need an employee's e-mail address *AND* the last 3 digits of their employee number to get into the site. No, you can't call up customer care and threaten to cancel your service if they don't change you to an EPRP. Which brings me to point 2.

2. "Retentions" no longer exists. Account Services is the new team, and unless there has been something *SERIOUSLY* screwed up in your plan, no more freebies. No more threatening to cancel and telling them that even though you got a Blackberry Curve for free 2 months ago because you threatened to leave, now you want an Instinct for free or you're going to leave. Basically, you'll be told, "That will be $200, don't let the door hit you on the way out" (not in so many words, of course). It seems the "powers that be" have decided that people are going to leave Sprint, no matter what they do. Which is fine, because you know there are always people are never happy with their current provider, so people will leave others to come to Sprint. Sprint requires *PROOF* that you live in an area with no service. Not just giving them a billing address. PHYSICAL PROOF. New driver's license, new utility bill at your new address, etc.

3. Good news for military. If you are stationed overseas, you can either suspend your service for the length of your deployment (with proof of deployment papers), or cancel your service (without an Early Termination Fee) if you do not wish to suspend it. By the way, you don't pay for your service while it is suspended (unlike the Seasonal Standby plan, which you can only stay on for 6 months and is $5.95 a month).

4. As for the company discounts. They *DO* verify your employment before the discount is added to your account. And the discount does not apply to the Simply Everything Unlimited or Talk/Message/Connect Unlimited plans.

Thanks, but I think I'll stick with GSM carriers, so that if I don't like the phones that my company provides, I can go get one that another company has and use it. Hey, that's what I did with my Centro and T-Mobile. The only thing I want from Sprint is the Sprint Cup Mobile application, but since it doesn't cover the Craftsman Truck Series or the Nationwide Series, it's not that important to me.

People in the military that are deployed are already protected by the Soliders and Sailors Act. I was sent to Bosnia in 96 and had a Cingular phone. My Power of Attorney did not stop the service like she was suppose to. I came back to a very large bill. All I had to do was send them a copy of my orders and remind them of the Soldiers and Sailors Act and presto...no bill. Sprint can tell you you only have 6 months, blah blah blah...but the law says different (if you are deployed).

If you notice, I said that you can suspend your service for the length of your deployment. I only metioned the Seasonal Standby because it:

1. Charges $5.95 a month

~AND~

2. You can only be on Seasonal Standby for 6 months. Then you have to be on a regular rate plan for at least 3 months before you can go on Standby again.

Seasonal Standby is not the same thing as the Military Suspension. Military Suspension = Free & the length of your deployment. Seasonal Standby = $5.95 a month & for only 6 months.

Well, I am with Sprint. I have no need to argue nor have I ever asked for free and threatened to leave. Those that do that are just taking advantage of a system and they knew that Sprint was going through tough times.

I just had my 5 year anniversary with Sprint. No problems, no issues, no nothing. They provide what I want and need. Many people with GSM here complain about their lack of service and since I am here, GSM is definitely out of the question.

Let's talk about charges and compare ATT and Sprint. How much is the data plan? With Sprint $15 and last time I checked, it was 39.99 with ATT. Nah, I'll use my 24 bucks for a case of Non Bud products.

Everyone has their choice of provider. Whether you like or dislike they all have something to offer. Sprint clearly has what I need and many have left ATT in my area cause of coverage. My two cents.

I have to admit, I haven't noticed any lack in coverage with T-Mobile. Even though CDMA has "more" coverage than GSM, I've very very rarely been without covergae, and that's only in isolated spots along the Interstate when I've been traveling.

Plus, T-Mobile didn't drop me as a customer, even though from March of 2006 to November of 2007 I was a month-to-month customer, and ROAMING 99% of the time (I moved from Florida to Charlotte, NC, where there is *NO* T-Mo coverage, it's still Suncom). Customer Service is great, plans are decently priced for the usage I have. Yep, I'm happy. I just want a darn NC phone number. Come on, MERGER!!
