| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Extremely Slow WiFi Hey, I tried out the Treo 800 over the summer the week it was released and decided it wasn't worth the money. On that Treo, the wireless worked great. Recently, my Treo 700p has been starting to show it's age, and I found a great deal on a new Treo 800 w/o a contract so I decided to try it out again. Lots of problems I had the first time around have been resolved, but the wireless is absolutely unusable. I've tried with 2 access points and using a local server to download files (machine on the local network). It downloads for about a second and then completely stalls. If I leave it sit long enough, it'll start up again. Has anybody else had this problem? I've even done a complete hard reset, turned the Phone radio off and tried again: same result. Does this Treo just have a bad WiFi card? Thanks in advance |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I have had no issues with my 800w. The WiFi is fast. I tested it by downloading a 6mb pdf file and it was done just over one minute.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Go straight to Sprint. Once you activate the Treo on your account, it is covered. Have you tried to close as many programs as possible on the 800w? I haven't noticed that as a problem but just thought it might help. Also, the routers you are connecting too are good? May seem like a dumb question but a bad WiFi router ='s bad juice. lol

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | I've tried an Airport Express basestation that I've been using for 3 years now (all other computers get 2.2-3.2MB/sec through it) and a software basestation on my MacBook Pro. Both had the exact same results on the Treo. I'll be trying it out at work today, but I'm not very hopeful. As for the running programs, I tested this immediately after a hard reset, so the only program I'd be able to close would be Internet Explorer, and that wouldn't help much. ![]() Guess I'll be calling sprint later today; I'm sure this will be fun. Edit: Can I call sprint or will they make me go to a service center? The closest service center open on weekends isn't really that close. Last edited by Thinkdiff; 11-12-2008 at 11:53 AM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't know, I have never called them. I usually just take it to the service center myself. They usually just fix my Treo and I am on the go in an hour or so. Wouldn't hurt to call them and find out.

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Called up Sprint. It seems they would allow a replacement phone to be mailed being that it wouldn't be feasible for me to get to a Service Center; however, they require you to run a couple troubleshooting steps before approving the request. I only have my cell phone, so I wasn't able to do that. Rather than arguing with the CSR (who was actually very nice), I just said I'd call back another time. She made a note on my account to approve the mail-in replacement after performing the tests and that was it. Then I decided to turn off the "Power Saving" feature in the WiFi Prefs control panel. And what do you know... 1600kb/sec (up from 38kb/sec). I never remembered changing that option on my old Treo 800, so I'm guessing the Power Saving function of the wireless card in my new treo just doesn't work correctly. I can live with this for now, as I normally have somewhere to charge the phone. When something else breaks, I'll bring it up and make sure they fix both things. Thanks for the suggestions. |
