![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | From what I've read its not likely ever to be available on the 755p, unless through the new Linux OS, which is supposedly going to be able to also incorporate Palm OS. However, even then, there has been nothing that has said that the new OS will be made available to old phones. I'm not geekie enough to know if it is even possible, but I tend to doubt it. There are some rumors that it may be available to the Centro at some point, as there is hardware available to support it, but there is been no further news then that, that I have seen. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I wouldn't be too surprised to see the 755p and Centro support the Linux OS when it's released.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | There is a 3rd party solution, but unfortunatly it only works on GSM Treo's and Centro's, so I wouldn't bet on a solution any time soon.

![]() | From what I recall, Palm said somewhere that the functionality to support My Location (ie, providing signal strength levels from several nearby towers) already exists in the Palm OS, but it is not exposed via the API. So, if Palm wanted to do it, they could do it for the Centro (and I believe they said they would do so for the Centro at the very least), and for the 755p, and likely for other older Treos too. But this would require a ROM update. And any ROM update that Palm releases will have to be extensively tested. This costs money and time, neither of which Palm is long on. Many were hoping that 1.07 for the Sprint 755p would include the My Location functionality--no one has been able to say conclusively whether it does or not. After Palm exposes it, then Google has to put out a version that uses it. Should be pretty easy for them to do that, but it might still take some time. I would say, look for the next Centro update. When that comes out, look for a Google maps version for at least the Centro. We with recently updated 755p's may find that it works for us too, even though it may be officially unsupported. Then again, Palm may not end up being willing to do this. They have to look at the cost to benefit ratio. Right now Centros are selling very well, and 755ps are yesterday's news. This kind of change could hardly make the Centros sell any better, and it is unlikely to do anything for the 755p either. |

![]() | Google's recently announced My Location feature is a GPS SatNav like service for Google Maps Mobile that functions without a GPS receiver. It works by triangulating your position based on the feedback from nearby cell towers that you are connected to. According to Google the current crop of Palm OS devices are not compatible as they do not offer the API they need to access the ID number of the cell tower. The service is in beta and is currently compatible with the Treo 750, 500v and 700wx models. |
