Gmail IMAP on Versamail: some messages get header only

Okay, this is weird, and annoying. I've searched extensively on this and can't figure it out.

I signed up for a gmail account because I wanted to use Versamail with a personal email account. I already have work email on EAS functioning great.

I am using the Centro Versamail update.

When I receive emails, many of them come through just fine. However, emails from the Treonauts forum come through with the headers only. When I go to the gmail website, I can see the whole email. Outlook on my PC also sees the whole email. But Versamail sees only the header. I have changed the settings on the Incoming Delivery preferences to no avail.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thats odd.

Headers only usually means you can retrieve the rest of the message when you want. Whats weird is that it's usually done for all emails coming in over a certain size.

It's only Treonauts emails? Forum or Newsletters?

You're right about that. I've increased the size limit just to be safe, and still it happens. Plus, I don't get the little envelope button to download the rest of the message. Versamail thinks it has the whole thing already. Get in the message menu also doesn't get the rest.

This seems to only be happening with the Treo forum emails that you get when you subsscribe to a thread, but it's happening to all of them. Other emails come through just fine as far as I can tell, but if it can happen to these emails, it can happen to others too.

Have you tried another personal email account to test this out? Say, a POP3 account somewhere? VersaMail was always goofy for me, especially my GMail accounts. GOOD LUCK!

I've had the same experience as gdseric... versamail getting a little confused.

I would have expected it to fail with the newsletters since they're html can be quite large (30k)... the forum emails are straight up text with nothing fancy.

Hmmm.

So you can try another mail account (Yahoo is pretty good too) or maybe even trail one of the paid for email clients like snappermail or chattermail...

These are good suggestions, thanks, guys. I suppose I could look it up, but does anyone know if chattermail or snappermail support EAS?

I don't know for sure, but you can check their websites. I haven't used it since I switched to WM.

There is an EAS plugin for Chatter eMail, called the Ex Plugin, but they no longer supply/support it, not sure why

I think they don't support it or distribute it anymore because Palm bought Chatteremail, and the EX plugin likely interferes with Versamail's EAS functionality. I'm going to try Chatteremail for IMAP and Versamail for EAS and see how it goes. Shall report.

Okay, Snappermail is out. You have to plunk down $60 to get the version that supports Gmail with IMAP. The version that supports Gmail with Pop still costs $50. No way I'm paying that.

Chatter, for $40 (still a lot, but at least it's cheaper) supports Gmail with IMAP using idle, so it's pushing emails to me.

So, I'm going with two programs for email, Versamail for work using EAS, and Chatter for personal using Gmail IMAP idle.

By the way, on the headers only issue, it seemed to just be gmail. When I changed my email address to my work email, I got the messages just fine via EAS on Versamail. Seems to be a weird Gmail IMAP thing with Versamail. Chatter gets the full messages.
