Unfortunately, it won't. When Palm pushed out the versamail update for the Centro, it was specifically for that, to work with Gmail IMAP. But, the update works fine on my 755P and I now have IMAP. So, yeah.

Are we talking IMAP altogether? Or just gmail IMAP?

I use Chatter and IMAP without problem on my 755p. I think Comiken is only talking about the Versamail update and perhaps just about Gmail.

Ha Ha i been trying all weekend, my uncle is an IT and still couldn't figure it out.. its helpless and I am pissed!!! My father and I contact eachother via email all day and he has his blackberry and I have to sign into GMX.com to read the emails it'd be so much easier if they came right to my phone, but I guess Im dumb if i cant figure this out

Color me interested. Where would one find the update for the Centro if we wanted to try it on our own 755p?

OK Step by step.

Launch the program entitiled EMail!

1. Tap the blue box at the top of the screen.
2. Tap Accounts.
3. Tap Account Setup.
4. Tap New.
5. Name the account.
6. Pick an email provider; if not listed select "Other".

Now it could go three ways; this is for a POP3 account.

7. Tap Next.
8. Type your user name for your email account.
9. Password; Tap the "Unassigned" box and type in your password.
(Box will change to "Assigned")
10. Tap Next.
11. Enter your EMail address.
12. Enter your incoming mail server.
13. Enter you outgoing mail server.
14. Tap Next.

Most of your mail providers will require authentication for outgoing mail:

15. Tap Advanced.
16. Tap Next.
17. Check Use Authentication.
18. Enter your user name and password.
19. Tap Done.

You will now be back at the first screen and you will see the name of the account you just created at the top.

20. Tap New.
21. Enter a recipent and subject and try sending your email.

You can go into preferences and create a signature and change other settings from there.

@LotusLord Gmail IMAP. I already had AOL IMAP working on my Treo but Gmail IMAP was not supported. That is what the update was for. Probably some other tweaks as well.

I also use the Centro Versamail update on my 755p with Exchange ActiveSync with great success. No issues at all.

The Centro update also provides vibrating alerts (a rather conspicuous absence on the 755p), and background server communications (now you can read email while sync'ing), in addition to the gmail imap support.

Yeah, you can get vibratating alerts with Butler, but it's nice to have the native support for it.
