Versamail interface with GMail - Treo Forum

Hello all.
New member and new to Palm.

I just switched from a Moto Q to Treo 755P. I love it. I have two questions that I have not been able to figure out on my own.

1. On my desktop I use Thunderbird. I have everything go to GMail, filter junk and then have Thunderbird set up with IMAP GMail.

I would like to set up IMAP Gmail on my Treo.

I did it in Versamail but as soon as I told it to Get mail it popped up with memory full.

Is there a better program than Versamail to get IMAP Gmail on the Treo or am I doing it wrong? I would like it to check for new mail and automatically download it. It does not do this nor could I find an option to make it do so.

I have been using the web browser to just access Gmail but it leads to problem below.

2. When I try to open a .xls or .doc attachment from Gmail it will open but not formatted correctly. Does the Palm software need something to recognize email attachments? It recognizes files I put on the card or sync but not from an email on the web browser. Emails received through Versamail work correctly using Gmail POP.

hi vtrally! welcome to treonauts. my girlfriend and I are both using the latest version of versamail, she on her centro and I on my 755p. there have been a lot of 755p users that are using the centros email app because it plays much better with google IMAP. here is a link to it : http://www.palm.com/versamail407 . I personally just downloaded the installer .prc on my computer, put it on my sd card, copied it to internal memory and ran it, although I'm pretty certain you can do it over the air through that link using blazer. good luck!

btw, are you on sprint or verizon?

I downloaded Chatter from Palm and Gmail IMAP works perfectly.
Now I just need to figure out how to view folders.

I am using versamail also and the version is 3.5.5 is ther a new version i should use ??? Please let me know.

It's weird, the 3.5.5 VersaMail seems to hate Gmail IMAP...it seems to time out a bunch...I really don't think I should have to pay for an email product just to get basic email!

If you wish to get IMAP to work well with your 755P, you can OTR (over the air) the link that contradude posted. My daughter had it installed and then I did it on my 755. It works beautifully. I think it works better than the original versamail that came with my 755P.
