Synchronizing partially with Palm Desktop, partially with Outlook

How can I sync only emails with my company's mail server via Exchange Active Sync, and sync Contacts and Calender to my laptop's Palm Desktop Manager.

The main reason for doing that is to maintain some privacy for my personal contacts and personal calender items. I don't want to sync and post those contacts and calender items on my company's Outlook for everyone to see.

I can't speak to Active Sync, but as for Palm Desktop:

On your laptop, go into Hot Sync manager and select Custom then you can configure how you want each component to sync ("Sync", "Handheld overwrites desktop" or "Desktop overwrites Handheld") or not sync ("Do Nothing")

Active Sync may also have customization features that someone else here on the forum can help with.

Under the preferences for your email program on the palm, go to Auto Sync. There you can select just the option to sync mail.

Then you will have to install the palm desktop conduits on your computer and setup you hotsync to use the palm desktop for contacts and calendar.

I did try to use the available options in "Custom" in HotSync to sync Calender and Contacts from Treo 755p to my laptop and nothing worked.

As I mentioned earlier, I used Exchange Active Sync to get emails from my company's mail server but did not check the options to sync my Contacts and Calender with my company's Outlook.

Thanks, Tattoome, for the suggestions. I did select under "Auto Sync" to only sync emails with my company's mail server.

Regarding the palm desktop conduits, the only way I know is to tap the "HotSync" icon on my treo and open it. Then pressed the "Options" key to open up the Options Menu, then tap "Conduit Setup," then make sure "Calendar" and "Contacts" are checked. Then I tried to hotsync between my treo and laptop, but did not worked. Then I tried what JG suggested and used the "Custom" tab in HotSync and tried all those options to sync my calendar and contacts. It did not work either.

Did I miss anything?

You may need to use a different Mail app on your Treo. I unfortunately can't recommend any, though chattermail comes highly recommended by others here

Did you install the Palm Desktop conduits? I had to go to my Palm folder under the Start menu and select "PIM conduit sync", then select "Synd with Palm Desktop". Then I was able to go into the Hotsync settings under "Custom" and select Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks to sync.
