IM, AIM doesnt WORK!! - Treo Forum

Hello, i got the phone sept 8th. A few minor probs mentioned in earlier posts but resolved. Thanks to those who replied.

New problem. My AIM screen name doesn't work on my phone nor my wifes phone. Her AIM screen name works on both phones no problem. On my phone I did about 3 soft resets, 3 hard resets and nothing. Tried downloading the IM program (free from sprint) more than 6 times and doesn't seem to resolve the issue. I tried to log into AIM on my computer and logged in without a problem. I even signed up for AIM mobile on aol's website and I still can't log into AIM on my treo.

I get Error 504 Timeout. I checked and double checked spelling errors. That wasn't the problem. I contacted sprint and the lady transferred me to Palm. Thinking it was the phone not the service. Basically getting the run around. I tried contacting AOL but couldnt find and email address or inquiry page. The only thing i found was for AOL members.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you trying to use the IM program that came with the Phone? Just a quick note: From my understanding, for every IM you send or receive, you will be charged a text. Personally, there are better IM programs out there.

Go to the Treonauts Shop and look for Mundu IM or IM+ I believe they both have a trial period. See if that works for you. That Error 504 is a network error. It has nothing to do with the Treo. The reason I know, I was on with Tech Support, 2nd Tier Support, for about two hours.

Give the IM programs a try and see if that is what is causing your angst.

id rather keep the im software that came with the phone since i can't totally delete it. (the icon is still there even if i try to delete it and when i click on it, it asks to dl the software again.)

anyhow, i just created another screen name. tired of trying to diagnose the problem.

Also, i've read different reports bout incoming/outgoing IM's and the text message charging. ive been using IM (AIM) alot and havent noticed any significant text messages being used. I got the 300 txt for $5. The only ones i notice being used are ESPN alerts and personal txt messages i send out or receive.

Thanks for the heads up on the that. I was under the impression that they charged you a text for using the IM program. It is good to know the the Truth....."You can't handle the truth".

Thats just what I have noticed for me personally. I get tons of espn alerts, so there may have been a few IM's that I didn't catch as part of the txt usage. I haven't really done a study on it. Maybe Ill do one when the new billing cycle starts. Don't take my word for it. Its best to clarify with Sprint.

Palm Treo 755p Review

If you read the review, it states that you are charged for each IM as a text. Have you confirmed this on your billing?

This is what sprint emailed me.. But who knows if they know what they are talking about.

I also confirmed that the IM app does not charge you for SMS messaging. Lately, I'm having a problem with my 755 soft reseting when I close a Yahoo IM conversation on the app.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

The IM app in both the 755p and the Centro are not as reliable as Mundu IM ($11 one time charge) or Toccer (Freeware). The ROM installed IM app drops the signal and times-out, which can cause a reset. Try out Toccer, since its free, and see if you get any better results.
