Unhappy Problems charging w/ sync cable

Is anyone else having problems charging their 755p using the sync cable? I haven't had a problem syncing but about 40% of the time it doesn't charge the phone. I have to unplug & plug it in several times but it doesn't always work. My boss and I both are experiencing the same problem. We don't want to have to purchase an additional charger for the office but if this keeps up we might have to...if we can't convince Sprint to give us a couple.

I've only used the included cable a couple of times, but it did work when I did. However, I highly recommend getting a sync/charge cradle for your office. There are a few to choose from now, but I've used the Palm version for years (since the Treo 650 days) and wouldn't be without it! If two of you split it, it is only about 20-bucks a piece and you can charge a Treo AND a spare battery at the same time. Great investment!

The included sync cable only does a trickle charge of the device. You may want to look at the Treonauts store as there are charge and sync cables that allow the Treo to charge at the normal rate.

are you plugging into a usb hub powered by the computer as opposed to plugged into the wall sometimes those dont work as well as the power going to the device is lower than from the wall outlet. Or you could have a bad cable. Also I have found that sometimes the device is slow to start active sync when first plugged into the usb cable. Sometimes I even have to jostle the cable a little. It may be a coincidence but several times when I ave checked there have been a bunch of programs active and maybe that has something to do with it.

Sometimes when I plug it in to the sync cable, the red light comes on within 10 seconds & I know that it's charging. Other times, like this morning, I plug it in there is no life at all. This morning I plugged & unplugged the cable/phone about 6 times & the charge light never came on so I gave up & borrowed someone's wall charger. I just now plugged it in with the sync cable & the red light came on within 5 seconds. I'm using the exact same USB outlet on my pc that I used with my old Blackberry...never had a problem charging it.
The phones are on a relatively new business account so maybe we can get the wall chargers & get our account rep to give us a concession for them. I just hate to deal with 2 cables when one should work.

How about one of these adapters? This way you can use it as a wall charger if necessary. I didn't know how much I'd use it, but it's saved me a couple of times.

@Dirrty.. I sure wish Dell woudl do a docking station for the non D-range of new notebooks.

Charing through USb (unless via a 'special' adpator above) is limited to trickle becuase the USB spec only allows 500mA. Usually desktops go above a little especially if you use the ports direclty on the desktop and not through a monitors hub...

Notebooks are very different (as anyone who's tried to use a portable hddd has discovered). They're very quick to shut down a USB port which exceeds 500mA. And some ports don't even manage 500mA which you need to trigger the charging process...

The other thing you should try is plugging the USB cable directly into the PC and not through a hub. It's not commonly known but hubs that don't have their own power supply do not pass on the 500mA they receive. If you're going through a hub make sure it's powered independently.

I've found these adapters to be indispensible from the portability, compactness and they keep the clutter down on my desktop.

I've been using this combo for charging/syncing and it's been great both at my desk and mobile as well. The Duo cable is the best thing since sliced bread to let me charge my spare battery and Treo (or sync) at the same when necessary.

Sync & Charge Duo Cable
Palm battery charger
USB Wall Adapter

Though I don't charge in my car, there is also a USB Car Adapter available.
