755p - some buttons stop working??

I just bought a Sprint 755p a couple of weeks ago, including the Power Vision (web access) package. The following buttons did not work:
  • the side up and down volume buttons,
  • the search (magnifying glass) button,
  • the P* brightness function (but, the letter P itself works fine),
so I took it back and got another 755p that did work. This lasted fine for a few days, but lo and behold, i am having the same problems with the same buttons again.

I keep the 755p inside a Palm holster, so there is not equipment damage. I suspect this is a software problem, but I have not loaded anything other than the out-of-the-box software, plus the following Palm-supplied programs:

Versa Mail for Microsoft Exchange Server, and gMail.
eReader bonus software
Mobile Voice Control
Files v2.1 bonus software

I can take this one back as well, but I don't wan't to just keep encountering the same problem. Any suggestions?

Great question Yikes. i have the same problem. My side volume controls no longer work on my 755p. Did you get an answer to your problem? I would prefer not to return the phone. Hope there is another answer

Yikes,

You say your buttons stopped working on both of your phones. Did you hotsync the old data from your 755 to your new 755? Remember, it could have been a 3rd party application that screwed things up. Now, you reinstalled that app onto your new phone causing the same issue.

Obviously this thread is very old...but I have the EXACT same problem!

The side volume buttons and the "find" command stop working. The side button/application launcher continues to work.

A soft reset gets them working again.

I have almost NO third party apps installed. In fact, this device is so much more stable than my 650 I almost never have a freeze or have to reboot. Which makes this problem a little annoying.

This is a verizon recipe 755P.

Only other anomaly I have seen is very rarely...like once every 4 or 5 days, the system "pauses" for like 10 seconds and then "catches up". But no reboot...

Anyway, if anyone has a "non-reboot" fix for the side button issue that would be great. Hard to imagine a hardware issue that would be fixed by a reset. I just cringe when I pull the battery. Bad memories of things that used to happen a lot more often in the old days when you reset!

Thanks,
BJB

I'd recommend a full backup, and then a selective restore, adding apps one at a time (since you said you don't have many). After you add an app, try the device out for a few hours and see how it performs. If you add one that results in the side volume keys to stop working...perhaps that's the issue. I would particularly look at Ptunes, as it tends to occasionally lock up the side keys if you switch out of it to another app.

I will have to try that when I have the time slot.
I checked and when I said few third party apps. and I should have said TWO!

Only third party apps are Snappermail and Backup Buddy VFS. That is it.

Ptunes is in the ROM.

THanks,
BJB

Yes PTunes is in ROM. However, it (along with several other ROM apps), has a RAM couterpart that is developed when you first tap on the app. A database file is created and can become corrupt in RAM. The app, if its running can tie up the sidekeys, if a) the database gets corrupted, or b) the db cache becomes fairly full yet doesn't cause a reset or clearing of the cache.
