Question eyes-on-the-road voice recording AND voice dialing?

I'm considering getting the 755p, mainly for Web browsing and voice recording. But...with Sprint at least, the voice dialing feature seems like a major, major minus! I'm not willing to pay $72/year for something I now have free on my 3 year old Samsung flip phone. I am willing to buy some software. But...both voice dialing and voice recording need to work in the car, without looking at the screen, preferably with one button press, and both voice dialing and voice recording should with a headphone (doesn't have to be BT, but would be nice). Anyone know the answer to this?

Question eyes-on-the-road for both apps when I need them?

Thanks, but I should have made clear that my problem is not lack of software. Of course there's Voice Dialit and maybe Toysoft VoiceCall and maybe a couple others, and there are plenty of recorders, like the built-in one, and Audacity and so on. That's not my question.

My question is whether these /both/ recorder and dialer will work with my eyes on the road. Like, if I configure the voice recorder to engage when I press the side button (I think that's actually the default with the built-in recorder), how will I get eyes-on-the-road voice dialing? Or vice versa, if I configure the voice /dialer/ to engage when I press the side button, how will I get eyes-on-the-road voice /recording/? Is my question clearer now?

Couldn't you use the default Voice Memo button, and then assign a favorite to launch the voice dial application?

favorite buttons--soft only?

First, I don't own a Palm so am way behind on all this. I think I have to wake up the touchscreen to use a favorite button, yes? How long does it take to wake up the 755p touchscreen? Sorry if this seems clucless but it really seems to be an annoyance considering that my antique Samsung flip phone fires up voice dialing when I just hit the "left" button on the 5-way.

I wonder if I could set up a real button as a favorite? Instead of a virtual button. Can I reassign the Calendar button, maybe? Or, I wonder if Voice DialIt or another option would respond to the button on a (wired) headset? (BT would be the obviously better choice but for some reason that seems to not be an option?)

To reassign buttons you'll need something like Butler that will let you custom assign applications to hard keys. It's a nice program with other good features too (one of my favs). You can download a trial at the link. I don't use VoiceDialIt, so I don't know if a wired headset will respond to the program, but BT headset will, unfortunately, not - just one of those things.

Wink Butler sounds like the answer, thanks

That plus Voice DialIt plus maybe Audacity ought to do what I want. Thank you very much for your answer!

PghPatti hits it on the head. You can assign which applications you wish to use in the buttons area of preferences. Also, favorites can be launched by hard keys. When you set up a favorite, just pick a key.
