Okay, Ive done it! Went ahead and installed the Treo 750 WM6.1 unofficial version and got everything running smoothly! Pls note that there is no Voice Command 1.6 or Remote Desktop in it.

Anyway, here the link for it:

IMPORTANT: You may not be able to revert back to WM6.0 after this and all files will be lost as in a Hard Reset!


To install:

1) Extract the file CHEEIMG.nbh over to a freshly formatted card.

2) Press and hold the side button while pressing the Reset Button.

3) Once in the Bootloader (Rainbow), simply follow the instructions

4) Reset your phone once you see the successful update message.

Okay an update, Messenger and Windows Live is missing. Those who cant do without these (like me) might want to take note.

Also there's something not reported on the boards that is the shrinking of screen size. Normally the screen area is 240x240 but with this update, the screen shrunk to something like 220x220. Definitely a bummer.

On the other fronts, everything seems faster and there's an addition of Office OneNote to the Office Programs.

What about the rest of the usual "crapware?" Thanks for keeping us up to speed!

Besides Voice Command, Remote Desktop, Messenger and Windows Live, the Quicktour is also gone from this release. I think thats about it. I will carefully observe and test this build and report back. So far I observed that the Media Player does not seems to remember your playlist device selection once the application is closed. This is not an issue though with WM6.0.

Thanks for the update on 6.1 I saw where it was officially released but the article on msmobiles listed several devices that it was for but made no mention of the 750. I dont have the windows live and live messenger and so dont really mind them gone and I dont use voice command so that would be no biggie for memessenger and I have nt used remote desktop. As gdserioc asked what about the att mall att music and all the other bloatware on the officiall att update for wm6? Or is this from microsoft for updating all wm6 devices to 6.1?

Guys, this leaked unofficial WM6.1 is for Treo 750/750v. If its not, it will not install properly on a 750 and may end up in an endless reset loop. There are many leaked versions of the WM6.1 currently out there but only the version(s) for the 750 will work.

Also note that there are 2 versions for the Treo 750, one is the Full one and the other is the Lite one. There has been reported cases of instabilities on the Lite one as it has been manually stripped so it is highly advised that you avoid it. Do note the link I posted is for the Full one.

As for the Carrier Bloatwares, Bootscreens, Messenger and etc, All this normally resides in the Extended ROM so, this upgrade will not remove them. But nevertheless, there is a way to remove this as I have done so with this built of WM6.1 and here's how:

WARNING, THIS PROCEDURE REQUIRES A HARD RESET AND YOU WILL ALSO LOOSE ALL YOUR JUNKS THAT RESIDES IN YOUR EXTENDED ROM!

The ONLY way to Make your Extended ROM and all the junks back again is to reflash your treo with one of the Official ROM.... and then Flash again with your favorite Custom ROM.

- Install "1_CHEE_MountExtROM.CAB"
- Soft reset.

- Install "2_Chee_Extrom_rename.cab"
- Soft reset again

- Go to Start Menu>Programs>Chee_Extrom_Unlocker
- Click it 2 to 3 times
- Each click will brings u popup saying error, ignore it.

- Soft Reset Again
- Go to File Manager and see NEW Extended ROM Folder
- Delete all files inside that folder.

- In Order for the Ext ROM to Merge with Internal Memory you must Do HARD RESET! After Hard Reset Check your Internal Memory! You may get up to 9MB Extra of Memory!
