Unable to recover Contact list after Upgrading to Windows Mobile 6 - Treo Forum

I'm new here and have tried to find an answer to my problem without success. Two days ago I upgraded my Activesync from 4.0 to 4.5 with no problems. Last night I upgraded from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6. I assumed that my contact list would carry over to WM6 because I had synchronized before I started the process and also the night before. However, the only things to carry over were: Calendar and Favorites. At this point, while I am connected, under Tools>Options, there are 2 Contacts icons: one at the top of the list with the new WM6 icon and another down at the bottom which looks like the icon from WM5. I am allowed to check the box next to the icon at the top, but there is no box next to the bottom icon. I am not allowed to changes settings of either. When it comes down to it, I just want to get my contacts back. So I guess my question is are my old contacts stored in that other icon somehow; and if so, is it recoverable? I really appreciate any help or suggestions.

welcome to treonauts adobo50. We are glad you are here. I have looked on my device in the active sync folder on options I have only one contacts folder and it is checked to sync. Is this a picture of the folder on your device or the desktop app? Mine device is set to sync contacts calendar email tasks and notes. It is possible that something happened to the install of wm6 but I dont think that that is the issue here. Click on the settings buton and go to options and see whats going on there.

Your contacts and everything else should have come over with everything else. After you did the install of wm6 did you doa reset? or in the alternative have your tried either a soft reset or a hard reset? The hard reset will NOT wipe out the wm6 update. If a soft reset followed by a sync does not get your contacts back then try the hard reset.

Another thought when I did the wm6 update it changed the name of the device from -*** (what is was before) to WM_*** If your device named was changed your contacts are under your old profile and may not have synched over somehow but I would think that none of your other data would have done so. But check on that first.

Yes, this picture is from my desktop, through Activesync. I'm pretty sure I did a soft reset after I installed WM6. I guess I could try a hard reset. You know, though, my device was renamed to WM_*** and like I said, the only thing that got synched over was Calendar and Favorites. I'll try the hard reset for now and update ya. Thanks!

On the actual device, there is only one Contacts icon which is checked off to synch along with calendar email tasks. Notes, Favorites, Files, Media, and Appointments have gray boxes and cannot be changed. I do feel like somehow my old profile only partially synched over. Before I try the hard reset, though, what exactly would the purpose of that be? I'm failing to see how that would give me my old profile. Thanks again.

I think that you can change that one the desktop but not the deb\vice. My notes is checked off on the deviced but also greyed out. Try changing on the desktop. While the device is atached to the desktop check in active sync view >mobile device and see how many devices you have i show treo and WM_***. I dont remember if treo was my 650 ormy 750 with wm5

When my device is attached to desktop via active sync; VIEW only has 2 options: Toolbar and Details; however when i am not connected, under File > Mobile Device I see Treo and WM_***; i've tried deleting WM_*** and re-synching hoping that the Treo profile will pop up, but all I get is WM_*** again; i'm almost at the point where I will just suck it up and start over with everything

The WM_*** is the wm6 device and you cant delete it you would have to delete the partnership and for now dont do that try the hard reset. Actually do another soft reset first let us know what happens.

Hey JFA, I really appreciate all the help and suggestions. Unfortunately the both the soft reset and hard reset just sent me back to where I was when I first posted. I was able to use my Yahoo address book and export it to Outlook and then from Outlook I was able to synch with my Treo. It's not my complete list, but at least 85% of it. Thanks again.

Glad you got back most of what you had and dont have to reenter thgat much. I would suggest if you dont have it installed install the sprite backup on the installation disk ( at least it came on my 750 install disk). If you dont have it on yours go to spritesoftware.com and get the software its like 29.95 but you can get a free trial for 10 days. Or someother backup software.

I downloaded the Windows Live mobile app. With it my contacts in windows live web sync with my phome OTA same as my emails. Of course, you have to set up all those contact in live first but if you have them in outlook its just an import. Just get the free Windows live mail desktop app to make it easier. Once you have the contact sync going you you'll not have this prob again. Even changing phones wont be a hassle (contact wise, anyway

).

Unfortunately the both the soft reset and hard reset just sent me back to where I was when I first posted.
