Treo 700w Sound Distortion/Malfunction - Treo Forum

Hello, I am having a problem with my Treo 700w phone, whenever I have a headset plugged in, the sound comes through distorted and quiet.

Originally I thought that the problem was my headset (was using the single one that came with it), but I recently bought a double ear bud headset and sound only comes through one side, and it comes out distorted. Anyway to make it work with both sides? Maybe it'll sound better?

The sound is fine directly through the phone speaker, but the headset is really shotty.

After fiddling around with it for awhile, I realized that not putting the plug all the way in makes the sound appear on the side that originally didn't have any sound, and it's clear, but you can't make it very loud, and the other side stopped. At another depth into the phone the side that originally works and was distorted works, but is also quiet. They never both work, and it's never clear and at a good volume.

I would suggest not using the headset jack at all if you can avoid it. The jack is notoriously bad on all Treos since the 600.

yes definitely stay away from the headphone jack its been a big problem since the 600 and they are oblivious

Ugh, tried a blue tooth headset as well but it didn't work either, any other ways to make my phone play music just to me?

I need it for when I go to the gym can't really have it blaring out the main speaker.

Was trying to use the Motorola S9, but to no avail.

As for the sound coming out of one ear and not the other is because the headset may not seat properly in the jack. Look at the black rubber bands around the tip of the headset and then look at the ones for Palm. They are seated differently thus making the sound not in stereo.

As for the distortion, how high is the volume on your Treo and does the new headjack have a volume control?

The sound is distorted regardless of the volume it is at. Yes the headset does have volume, but still distorted.

My other headset worked fine for awhile, but is distorted, and so I bought a new headset which is distorted as well, so it must be something with the phone, correct?

I would take it to Verizon and have them look at it. If you have the insurance they may fix it or they may give you a free upgrade to the w/x Maybe, but not likely.
