Bluetooth connection problem

Calling out to anyone who can help me with this one. I have a Treo 700wx with WM 5.1 and most of the time it works like all other things Microsoft. I've come to deal with this as I have with my home PC. This one has me a lil pissed though. I'm trying to pair up my Dell GPS unit and I have a problem.

The problem is it worked fine initially. worked with every program I put on the phone. Now, even after a very painfull hard restart, the instant any program goes to connect with the GPS, the BT-GPS-01950C (the Dell GPS) gets deleted from the bluetooth device list. So I'll put it back on, and as soon as the prog goes to connect with that port, I'm being asked if I want to add the GPS to the device list. I say no, it asks me again. I say yes and it erases itself from the bluetooth list.
Bout ready to throw them both out.

Any help would be appreciated. I've tried every possible port and combination to no avail.

Love the site!!!!!!

Ouch! That sounds kinda wierd. It must be have a conflict with another program or its not friendly at all with the 700wx. Is it on a list of compatible devices? That would be the starting point for a solution.

I have just found out that the 700wv is not totally "hands free" as there is not voice dialing component. Is there a solution for this?

There is a voice dial program in the 750 with winmob 5 and you ought to be able to get that to work I would think. Also there is an update coming soon to the 700 wx updating it to windowns mobile 6. There was a shout out on that recently here at treonauts I believe. That should take care of you for sure I would think.

Being new to my palm, i do not know what the "750 with winmob 5", is. How does one know when an upgrade is coming. Would this upgrade allow for voice dialing?
Here in california, we are starting a hands-free only law and I need to get there. Nothing like waiting for the last minute

Thanks for the info.

the treu 750 is a windows mobile or winmob device. It started with windows mobile 5 and then there was an upgrade to 6.0 6.1 is out but not olfficially out fof the 750. Palm and VZN just announced that an update to 6.0 will be out "soon" maybe September for the 700 wx only no 700w update at least yet. There was news I believe her at treonauts. If not check out brighthand.com or treo central or everythingtreo.com

Can you explain the fact that it worked with every program I tried one day, and then not the next?

Pete Lorenz will become famous soon enough
Not all compatibility issues are black and white. In other words, it's not always a matter of "it either works or it doesn't". In some cases, conflict happens as a result of requirements made in RAM by two, three, four or more programs leaving their little "remember me's" behind when you close apps. If this is true, then the order in which you open/close apps (or whether you open a particular one at all) may affect its function on any given day.
It does not sound as though that GPS unit is entirely compatible.
In general, a compatible device will cause no known conflicts.

As jfa02 has said, checking the device compatibility list for the BT-GPS-01950C is the starting point.

Here is a link at a forum discussing the same issue. I made an attempt to locate a compatibility list for your device, with no luck.
Re: Axim x50v, WM5, and GPS Bluetooth. - Axim/PDA - Dell Community Forum

It sounds like an issue between that particular transceiver and WM5, not specific to the 700WX. There are many good transceivers available. I use Palm's (has sirfstar III chipset).

The specific issue MAY be that the version of bluetooth used to actually transmit from the transceiver is not recognized exactly by WM5. In this case, it may be possible to momentarily shake hands, but not necessarily possible to TX/RX data within the necessary frequency range.

Not sure what you mean by 'totally hands free'. I can click for voice command on my 700wx, and say "dial: 1 800 567 6789" and it does it. Works with or without the earbuds. Or, I can tell it to "call home" or "call Joe Blow", and it does. I found it difficult to dig up info about the voice command features of the Treo, but I've had good luck once I figured it out.
