700W Freezing Problem

First of all, Hello all! I'm new here, but I've had my Treo 700W for close to two years. When I first got it I had some problems with the device locking up, but I did the software update and it fixed most of it.

About a month ago the handset started freezing up more often. I figured it needed to be updated, so I went to Palm's support site and updated it(v. 1.22).

Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem, and it's gotten worse ever since. It freezes when it's locked, when it's unlocked, after sending a text, in the middle of a call, etc. Basically, it freezes several times a day and in any situation.

When it freezes, the only way to un-freeze it is by removing the battery, and even then it sometimes takes a few tries to get it to restart. I gave the phone a hard reset, but that did nothing also.

I'm basically at my wits end with this thing. Does anyone have any advice?

BTW, I searched and didn't find anything useful.

Thanks in advance,
-Ted

Welcome to Treonauts

Do you have any third party apps installed?

I am having a similar problem with my Treo 700 wx. I have no problem when I am in my home network, however when the phone shifts to "Extended Network" (I am on Verizon) the phone slows down to the point it is unusable. It takes 45 seconds to wake up, i miss calls because the answer button doesn't respond in time to pick up an incoming call, is basically useless to try and find a number for outgoing calls or TXT messages, and don't even get me started on trying to surf the web! The phone will then randomly throw an error executing clocknot.exe. Removing the battery and doing a hard reset does not help the problem. The problem does not go away until I am back in my Home Network, and do a soft reset. I am using Verizons Wireless Sync with Push enabled to sync with an exchange 2003 server. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the welcome

I was running PDANet for a few weeks prior, but I didn't reinstall it after the hard reset. So right now, the handset has no third party apps on it.

I would just try a soft reset, and see how its goes from there because i don't think that 3rd party apps are the probelm

Any chance of getting Verizon to swap it for another 700w?

Tazuk,
As i am sure you know even if verizon was to send them a phone, its not like it's brand new. The Refurb treo may even have more problems

No, since it's been more than a year (and I didn't get the phone from them in the first place), they won't do anything

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a soft reset is when you remove the battery for roughly a second, then put it back in? If so this is what I have to do to get the phone to "un-freeze." So far it hasn't fixed anything.
