GPS with google maps

I have downloaded google maps on my 700wx. Is there a way to find your location with this phone with out an external GPS receiver?

I was just looking at an ad on BGR for telenav and went onto the site and its shows for telenav you need an external gps receiver. There are some programs that essentially use the gps location of towers to get you within athousand yards or feet I dont remember which of your location.

That feature is on it's way and is already available on some other platforms supported by Google Maps.

v2.0 of Google maps is out for WM6 (the PalmOS version is still at 1.209).

Check Google Maps in your mobile browser. Here's the video of the feature.

It's bloody useful actually and works in a similar way to previous attempts by layering up different forms of available data (such as cell towers or wifi hotspots that your device can see) against a listing of known places. Skyhook run a similar service and I remember there was a browser plugin in for regular PCs that did it too.

Hope this helps.

Thumbs up

google maps ver.2.0 is out for wm6. I just dl it and it uses cell towers to approximate your location. I am in the birmingham alabama area and it got my location right to within a few hundred yards.

The 'Find it now' feature is still officially a beta version, and according to the site, still being tweaked for different phones. The unfortunate thing with our Treo 700 W/WX is that when there is a beta like this, our devices are among the hardest to work with. So I am guessing it may take a while, but if we get it, it will be in a future version.
