Newbie Help with loading Programs - Treo Forum

I'm new to the whole PDA thing. I have been able to load some programs to my palm so far but I have been having trouble loading my weather program. I hot sync my phone to my computer and add the downloaded files as the directions say. When I look them up in my phone under file explorer I try to open them and get the error message, "there is no application associated with "mxip_system." run the program first, then open this file from within the application."

I have no idea what that means or how to get past it. When I search I haven't seen anything that can help me learn to add programs, either the jargin throws me off or the instructions assume you know how to complete the task.

Please any help would be great.

What weather app are you trying to install? Also are you sure it's the Windows Mobile version and not the palm version? What is the file extension of the installer? .cab, .exe?

Do this:

Email kmeteo.prc to yourself.
Download the attachment with your Palm
It will install (just select the proper options)
Done!

I see you have a Treo 700wx, this runs Windows Mobile but the application you are trying to install is for PalmOS

You would need to either find a weather app designed for Windows Mobile or use Styletap to run the PalmOS one.

OK well I guess after messing around I have less knowledge then I even thought with this pda thing.

I could really use a step by step (in 3rd graders words) on how to download a simple program like resco for example. I am having trouble with that.

also can someone please explain the diff between a cab file and an exe file.

thank you very much for the help. I'm more of a visual learner so it's difficult for me to get the hang of all of this.

an exe file is downloaded to your desktop and then transferred by active sync to the device a cab file is downloaded off the internet to your device and installed.
