| I made my first post! ![]() | E-mail setup-can receive, but not send I have tried now for about a year to get my Treo 700W set up to properly send and receive E-mails. I can receive, but have never been able to send. Last three weeks, when I receive E-mails, the last e-mail loads but my status bar says that it is still receioving, then I get a message that says "Messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again". Like I say, this message only started about three weeks ago. I'm sure that there is a simple setting fix, I'm just incompetent. I use Bellsouth.net. It is a POP3 type (whatever that is). My incoming and outgoing servers are the same: mail.bellsouth.net; I have the domain as bellsouth.net. Any thoughts? |

![]() | On my 700wx I had to set up the ingoing and outgoing servers as my work POP3, but then had to set in options for outgoing using Verizon's outgoing server. No domain name was used in my set up. I had to call the carrier to get it going as the password had to be reset but it was good to go after a five minute call to tech. Good luck with your set up.

![]() | I used to have a problem sending out email on my 650. I use chatter email. My carrier is alltel and my email was sctelcom. I could send to others who were with sctelcom. But no one else. I tried setting the smtp to alltel.com and it works. Worth a try for you. I hope you get it working. |

![]() ![]() | @ianhar01 If you can receive but not send then there is a problem with your outgoing server. You shoudl look for an SMTP server address from Bellsouth as well as what credentials you need to be able to use it. For incoming mail: POP3 e.g pop3.mailserver.com usually required a login and password For outgoing mail: SMTP e.g smtp.mailserver.com usually requires a password and can require encryption or different port number Bellsouth web pages should be able to give you the details. Just pretend like you're setting up Outlook. One other thing it *could* be is that Bellsouth might be limiting SMTP (Outgoing mails) server access to those people within their network. It's very common to do this to protect the outgoing mail server from SPAM attacks. If this is the case. You're best bet is to get a Google or Yahoo mail account - I'd recommend this for all people anyway as these accounts well protected from spam, well managed and totally ISP agnostic meaning you can keep the email for life regardless of who you're with. They both offer very good instructions and remote mail access for most mail clients including your Treo (via Versa, Chatter, Snapper et al)... Regards ~ Steph
