Best Push email solution for Gmail ??

Hey all- I've owned a 700wx from Sprint now for about 7 months. Over the past 7 months I've fought with the email feature on the phone. For some reason every 8th or so email won't send- its hangs up in the outbox and stops the whole process. I then locate the message that is the problem and delete it and things are back to normal. Less than the ideal solution.

I used a blackberry for several years and loved it. Moved to the Treo thinking it's a blackberry plus everything else. Now I have everything else except a decent email solution.

To cut to the chase- after searching and searching- what is the best option to go with in order to put a push email solution in place with my gmail account? How can I best blackberry my Treo without the exchange server?

Thanks-

JT

FlexMail 2007 supports push when used with a suitable IMAP service. You would need to have an account with someone like FastMail who support the IMAP idle command and have your GMail emails forward there.

TazUK, you seem to know what you're talking about. Care to answer a few more questions? Anyone else feel free to chip in as well.

I suppose I would like some clarification on the Implementation of this software and how it would work with FastMail. I'm trying to help a friend solve his email problem without forcing him into getting his IT guys involved.

My current impression is that FastMail is a company/service that allows you to create an account with them on one of their IMAP push servers (i.e. the equivalent of a blackberry enterprise server). And then the FlexMail 2007 is a client you download and install on your Treo 700 wx? Forwarding your GMail messages to the fastmail service would allow them to be delivered to your handheld almost immediately after appearing in your inbox. I saw on the FlexMail 2007 site they had the configuration inputs / port #'s for Gmail to get the device talking with the push server. Am I way off base here, or am I just missing a few more pieces?

Any help at all would be appreciated. A big thanks in advance for all responders.

That sounds about right

I mentioned FastMail as they are probably the best known, but any provider that supports IMAP with the idle command would do. AOL are such a provider and it's about the only positive thing I can say about them Chatter email on PalmOS was I think the first mail client that utilised IMAP in this way. The developer of that has now been employed by Palm

Of course Microsoft ActiveSync can do push when used with a suitable Exchange server.

Another solution, that's had mixed results, is using the Blackberry connect software on the Treo.
