treo 700wx phone as modem... help!!! - Treo Forum

Hi all,

I'm new to this whole 'treo thing' so I apologize if my question is not properly addressed.

I bought a 700wx and I'm trying to use the 'phone as modem' function. I first initialize the modem in my phone and then I try to connect using the sprint pcs connection manager. I get a message "error #678..." and then it disconnects.

My wife has a sprint 6700 and it access the net in a snap!!! What am I missing?

We both share the same computer... For some reason when I connect my wife's phone, I need to reinstall the drivers for mine...

Please help me!!! ANY ideas will be appreciated.

Welcome rotty2004,

On the Treos to use the Phone as Modem you need the Phone as Modem plan (PAM).

If you don't have a Mac you can try PDANet as well..

I get EXACTLY the same result. I downloaded PDANet and it works fine, although I did not want another application on my phone taking up memory. Worse than that, it can't be loaded on the storage card. At any rate, it works, and I'll live with it, at least for now.

Thanks a lot for all this information!!! It is very much appreciated!!

I called Sprint and after getting 3 different answers from 3 different reps I decided to talk with a supervisor who seemed to know how this is supossed to work. They said that I'm not able to use my treo as PAM because I don't have the PAM plan (although the other 3 reps told me I did not need such plan for PAM)...
They also said that if my wife's phone works, I should not use it because I might get charged later for the usage. It seems like they can tell if your connection is being used to access the net for your phone or your computer.

Anyways, I guess I'll wait to see if they lower the cost of the PAM plan in the future... I was really excited about using my PAM, but it seems like i'll have to wait.

I tried Sprint PCS Connection Manager and didn't work, then I installed PDANet ver 1.72 and it worked!

I don't have the PAM service, but I do have the Sprint Power Vision Access Pack, I don't know if that makes any difference.

I use my 700wx as a modem.... Change the settings on the connection manager, it worked for me. Good Luck...

The thing about PDANet is if you already have an unlimited data plan, they can't tell that your tethering it to your computer. If they know your tethering it, they can charge you more.

For some reason when I use PDANet it drops the connection after about 2 minutes. I am using my Bluetooth to Synch with the laptop and all works well and then it just craps out on me.

Anyone else experience this? Fixes?

And also, if anyone is using the Sprint software to connect, please read my post http://forum.treonauts.com/treo-mode...p-w-700wx.html and let me know if you have any suggestions.
