Dialer only occasionally connects on Verizon 700wx

Hello everyone,

Friday, I purchased my first Treo, a Verizon 700wx. I've been very pleased with the voice and text message components, but I've had a lot of trouble getting the data to work.

I'm totally new to the Windows Smartphone world, so I'd like some perspective from other posters. I've had several conversations with Verizon technical support and I'm planning to continue working with them, but I want to make sure my expectations are appropriate.

When I try to load a site in Internet Explorer, most of the time the dialer pops up and then after it makes two attempts, I get a message that there is no modem on the other end (that's the basic jist, at least). Sometimes it'll connect, but it takes 4-5 attempts. I've tried it in many different locations in two different cities; one with EVDO and one with the lower-speed X1.

Is this normal behavior? I don't remember the model in the store doing that, but I only used it for about 15 min. I'll be pretty disappointed if it's normal, but at least I won't waste Verizon support's time.

Thank you very much!

I have the same problem, from what I understand, it's pretty common.

Some users have said that they had Verizon remove the data from their account, then re add it, and after that it worked fine. This was the suggestion of a Verizon rep. It has something to do with switching devices which both had data on them. Did you have a data plan on your last phone also?

I haven't tried this fix yet, but will today to see if it helps. The problem is really annoying.

Did this work for you? I didn't have data before, but I'm willing to try if it helped you.

Can I set the dialer so it tries more than twice before giving up? That might help some.

Thanks for your help!

I actually haven't had them do it yet, but I'm on the phone with data right now. I'll post back this evening with whether or not it works.

No go so far. The last resort for me to try is a hard reset, which I didn't want to do right now because I need to do a backup.

....now it seems like I can't connect at all anymore. When it finally does go through, I get a username a password error.

Yet another update...

All through lunch I couldn't connect at all. I was getting the modem disconnect error, then the username and password error, then an error saying that the hot had disconnected me.

I call data support back, and while I have them on the phone, it just starts working again. I've disconnected, and re connected multiple times without issue.

The guy at data support said that it looked like my account was fine, but that there was an error in the way my ESN was set up, and that was probably causing the data disconnect error. He didn't fix that error, the last guy I talked to did. My guess is it took a bit for my phone to update, even after I *228'd, twice.

I'll post if I have the problem anymore.
