Treo 700w/wx Price, Data Plan, and Wi-Fi questions - Treo Forum

Has anyone seen any better prices than these which Verizon quoted me?
The Treo 700w is $249.99 (after $150 rebate and $100 off with the data plan).
The Treo 700wx is $299 (after rebate and $100 off with data plan).

Is the data plan necessary? I would rather not pay the extra $44.99 per month, and instead buy the Palm SDIO Wi-Fi card. I only want to use the data features when I am near a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Verizon rep said if I don’t get the data plan, I could be charged for any data bandwidth I use unintentionally, possibly into the $1000’s of dollars. Could this happen, or was this just a scare tactic by the Verizon rep to sell me the data plan?

Ok, here are the cliff-notes if you're impatient

Verizon Plan - Get the unlimited, otherwise data = too expensive if you plan to actually use the web. Total cost with smallest voice plan around $80 a month.

Alternative - Sprint Sero - 500 anytime minutes, unlimited data, nights starting at 7pm - Total Cost $30 a month. Treo700wx cost $249 w. new plan

OK this was a no brainer for me...

Supposing you HAVE to stay with Verizon, get the unlimited data. Otherwise they charge you per kiloBIT that you have load onto your phone, something ridiculous like 10 cents a kilobit (Average webpage being somewhere between 100-300). The kicker is the $44.99 price tag for that plan which doesnt include any normal cell phone minutes.

The alternative is the Sprint SERO plan. The plan cost $30 a month and consists of 500 anytime minutes, free sprint-sprint calling, and best of all UNLIMITED DATA USAGE. All for $30 a month, they have other plans with more minutes, but for me this was such an obvious choice and for $249 now you can get the Treo 700wx with 2 year contract. If you want to find more info on this there's killer thread in the slickdeals.net forums "hot deals" or "deal talk" i believe. Also just searching on google for Sprint Sero should turn up a ton of results. Got it?
