Hotmail Doesn't Delete Messages... - Treo Forum

So I can get my e-mail from Hotmail, comes up just fine. Ok, you have 10 new messages.

I highlight all and delete. They go away.

15 minutes later on the next send/receive, they're back.

HOW THE HELL do I configure Hotmail to delete the messages off the server and stop re-downloading them?!?

there should be something on your hotmail settings that says 'do not leave messages on server' or something along those lines.

I thought the same thing... but there exists no such option under any of the settings menus for Hotmail.

In fact, the "empty deleted items" option is grayed out for Hotmail, while it is enabled for all my other email accounts.

I find that its alot easier to just use Sign In in your normal IE bar - that alows me to do everything normal hotmail does and its configured for pocketPC which is great for ease of reading etc.

Pocket Outlook has been written to leave messages on the server and there's nowhere you can change this, unless someone knows of a registry hack

You could have a look at FlexMail, that's a lot more configurable

I also had this problem. There are two ways to solve it: 1) I found that if instead of selecting "delete" from the menu in Hotmail, you can select "move" and then select the "trash" folder, which will delete the message the next time you sync and it won't come back. Alternatively, 2) a real fix to this problem is to go into Messaging Tools, then Options, then click on the Storage tab, and change the option for "Empty deleted items" to anything other than "Immediately". Then the delete option should work fine in Hotmail. The downside to option 2 is that (at least for me) I have to have the "immediately" option set in order for my other email account (POP mail) account to delete messages on the server. So with one setting ("immediately") I can get my POP mail to delete on the server but not Hotmail, with the other options I can get Hotmail to delete on the server but not POP mail. Not sure why they won't both work as expected under the same setting. But hopefully that gives you some alternatives.
