| A Few Questions.... ![]() | explain headphones for 700wx please This will probably be obvious to me once my Treo gets here. But, I am trying to get all my accessories purchased ahead of time, as when I get the Treo I will be leaving town right away. I am trying to understand how the headphones work on the Treo. Currently, I have an Etymotic ER•6 Isolator stereo headphone that I use for my old MP3 player. I will be using my new Treo for my MP3 player now. So, I purchased the Palm stereo headphone accessory (model #3191WW). I assume this is straight forward - plus the adapter into the Treo and plug the ER-6 into the adapter. Full stereo sound, right? My question (unless I am also misunderstanding the scenario above) is that I also have the Etymotic ETY-COM mobile phone headset with a standard headset jack on it that I've used with my Sanyo Sprint phones. I want to use that with my new Treo if possible. My question is, does the mobile headset plug into the same Palm stereo headset adapter? Or doesn't it work this way? I am confused how the Treo knows that the headset is two-way but the headphones are one-way. Help! And thank you! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't think a headset will work through a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor, they're only designed for headphones ![]()

![]() ![]() | @jalan, If this helps when I'm by my desk and to avoid using a BT headset on a call I plug in a standard Panasonic Phone headset (1 speaker with boom mic) - KX-TCA60 which I got from Fry's for $9. It has a 2.5mm jack and work perfectly with the Treo... They also do stereo versions. ~ Steph

![]() ![]() | Re-read your question! If you look at the connectors you see that stereo headphones with mikes have four divisions, plain old stereo and mono with mike have three divisions and plain mono with no mike just has two. There's actually nothing more at work than just clever deduction and simple plain old cicuitry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_plug for everything you wanna know... mid page is the tip-ring sleeve... this bit is the genius. ~ Steph

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | As there is only one 2.5mm jack on the Treo, you can't have both a headset and stereo headphone using your current hardware without buying an additional bulky jack splitter, if one is even available (it would have to have 2.5mm male -> 3.5mm & 2.5mm female, and you'd have to swap earpieces all the time). Screw that. What you want is good quality sound over a headset, which the included Palm wired headset does not provide. (I want this too ).I think you can solve this if you buy a headset like this, which allows you to attach any quality 3.5mm headphones into the mic jack of this wired 2.5mm headset: LG Stereo Headset for LG FUSIC You won't need your Etymotic ETY-COM or your 3191WW. If someone out there has found a better/cheaper wired headset than the one linked above, please speak up. For example, having more buttons like music playback controls on the headset would be awesome. On a related note: it's wise to avoid a BT headphone solution for now if you have any interest in the included Voice Command feature, which is loads of fun to use (but not compatible with BT! ).See this for another issue with wired headset usage, that I hope someone might assist with: PPCGeeks.com - View topic - Using Voice Command with a wired headset's Headset Button |
