Remember that these phones are little computers, and as such they need to be "rebooted" every once in a while to clear up lag issues, or stuck programs. A soft reset is a quick and easy way to clear up most issues. Things that tend to stick after that can potentially be cleared up by a hard reset, but this is a little more intense as it deletes all the info on your phone. This brings it back to its factory settings.

I'm having a problem where my 700wx doesn't even respond to a hard reset. Calling Sprint. Sounds like a hardware problem.

On soft reset, "Treo" shows up, but nothing further. On hard reset, I get prompted if I want to erase all data. I click the up button to indicate yes, and it again goes back to the "Treo" screen and just stays there forever. Any ideas of something else I should try?

I'd say try removing the battery, leaving it out for a while and then doing another hard reset.
