| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Hello all. First time poster. I'll try to be brief w/ my question. I had a previous Palm Tungsten T3 that I used on my mac computer. All went well. I now use a Treo 700p. When I did my first (and all other) hotsynch(s) it is not updating my calendar or contacts on the mac. It does update the tasks list. I'm wondering why this didn't update. I have "trashed" or deleted the existing version of Palm Desktop that was on my mac, then re-installed it using the CD that came w/ the Treo. All that did was completely wipe out my contacts and calendar dates altogether (on mac). I am still using the same "user" as I was on my Tungsten. That's how I had the old contacts, calender, etc. to begin with. I've browsed through several threads discussing Treo 700p's, hotsynch problems, etc. Nothing specific to my problem though. I did notice discussion of renaming the "backup" folder and performing another Hotsynch. Unfortunately, my Palm Desktop folder "/Applications/Palm/" doesn't even have a "backup" folder. I've done several Hotsynchs too, you'd think it would have a backup folder by now. I'm okay for now, since my contacts & calendar are up to date on my Treo. I'm just afraid what will happen when the battery dies on me someday and my mac isn't up to date. Any suggestions? Thanks for all your help! Josh |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Can't really help on the hotsync problem but rest assured your data is safe even if the battery does run out because the newer Treo's use NVRAM ![]() I think a lot of Mac users actually use a third party product call The Missing Sync for syncing their Treo's. http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php

![]() ![]() ![]() | Sounds like your using the Palm Desktop for Mac, right? You might need to check your Hotsync Manager conduit settings. Here is a link to the Palm site that will tell you just how to do this. When you get the settings right, remember to set it where the Treo overwrites the desktop you could loose some of your settings (calendar catagories and the like). Here is another link to follow for troubleshooting various Mac-Hotsync conflicts. Taz is right about The Missing Sync, it helps Mac users sync to their existing Mac applications without using the Palm desktop. There are other conduit programs out there (programs that help the information sync between different desktop applications), but this is probably by far one of the most used ones. When you've done all this, let us know how everything turned out! If you have any more questions or anything please let us know!

| A Few Questions.... ![]() | Hello again, Well, I broke down and purchased the Missing Sync software. It actually did make things flow a lot easier. No more HotSync problems. Missing Sync replaced my need for Palm Desktop altogether. Now I sync much easier, and MUCH faster! Only problem now is, it doesn't update my contacts, address book, etc in either iCal or Palm Desktop. Luckily I have Verizon Wireless Sync, and everything is stored on-line. But, from time to time it would be nice to just have that info easily accessible on my iMac. Oh well, I'm still better off than I was before. Thanks again for your suggestions & help! JL |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Doesn't update from additions using your phone or mac? Try taking a look at your sync settings and make sure they're set to go both ways.

![]() | Address Book/Contacts Sync Problem with My Centro For the past couple of weeks I am not able to synchronize my Palm Desktop with my Centro. I've run dbFixIt, dbScan, but they didn't come up with any errors. I've tried the following settings in the HotSync Manager; Synchronize the files, Desktop overwrites Handheld, & Handheld overwrites Desktop, but none of the situations synced my Address Book in either direction. I've also tried upgrading my Palm Desktop to the new version v6.2 by Access Software. All this did was slow down my HotSync process. I have about 2160 contacts. I've backed up my data for my Contacts by exporting from within Palm Desktop and I've run NVBackup on my Centro. So if I need to blow something away please let me know. I really don't want to lose any contacts, because I'm not sure which is more accurate because I've added entries to both the Palm Desktop and my Centro. ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | First of all, welcome to Treonauts, PalmFood! Can you describe what happens when you try to Hotsync? Do you get an error message, reset, does the hotsync hang on a particular task? |

![]() | Hello StuartRayner, thanks for the welcome. Actually absolutely nothing. It doesn't even show up during the HotSync process in the desktop animation (where the red and blue arrows intermingle) during the HotSync process is occurring nor on the Centro. Address Book nor Contacts show up on either. It's almost like it's ignoring that Application. Calendar, Todo/Tasks & MemoPad sync fine and my other applications show up and sync fine too. BTW, I do not use any third party Address Book/Contact management software. I've gotten used to the Palm Desktop and actually prefer it for the ease of use and it does everything I need. So no third party conduits are installed or used. I'm so flustered because as you can see by the sheer number of contacts it's the main reason for PalmOS device. I've been using Palm devices since way back when they were US Robotics and the Pilot 1000. I think I still have it somewhere, but I'd be hard pressed to find it. :] Last edited by Palmfood; 02-29-2008 at 02:33 PM. |

Hmmmmmm..... I gather the Hotsync software is loaded onto your computer. ![]() Go into your Hotsync options on your phone and verify they are set for your computer (the name of your computer should be displayed). The connect setup should have your computer name listed and the options for it should be cable or bluetooth (normally). Optimus Centro out.
