Ruined treo 700p - Treo Forum

I tried to clean my treo with a damp cloth that had soap on it.
Now I can't use the keyboard.
The backlight will work
but the f key acts like the r key and the backspace would act like the I key.
I already tried drying it and hard resetting it but no luck.
I would probably need to buy a torx T5 and open up the treo then replace the keyboard but by doing that I would probably make the problem worse.
I ruined my 650 by opening it up and removing the keyboard.

It's pretty simple to replace, provided you can find the parts. But if you feel at all non confidant I would try to find some one else who could do it for you.

What do you think happened to cause each key do something random and also act like a button was pressed without the button being pressed.
For instance the phone button would act like the up button the calendar button would act like the down button the up button would be the phone button and the down button was the calendar.
I couldn't hard reset until I let the phone sit without a battery in it.
At one point the keyboard completely stopped working. Also any button I pressed would be a random letter and ocassionly a special character without the option button being pressed.
The problem was solved for a few seconds after I dried the phone.
It only works correctly after it has been heated and then cooled.
I think it is something more than just the keyboard.
I do not think the problem is caused by water damage.

maybe a digitizer problem I would tryt a torx driver radio shack or a hardware store not that expensive. maybe you some lint or fuzz or something in there that got shifted around and is cusing shifted key syndrome. Worth taking a look at before you jump off the deep end.

The phone fixed itself

I took out the battery for a few hours and left the phone in a cold place now everything is fine.

There was probably still some moisture in the device that was causing a short on the keyboard pcb. be glad thats all that happened.
