Palm - Support - Treo 700p Update

This is a "general availability" firmware update for the Treo 700p. Looks like they've addressed a fair few issues.

Product enhancements:

• Performance improvements to phone application
• System improvements to minimize skipping during music playback and eliminate audio delays experienced on some games
• Performance improvement to minimize delays experienced when loading Blazer® browser
• Support for new daylight savings time legislation, plus a simplified Date/Time preference panel
• Increased expansion card support including 4GB SD cards and SDHC cards
• Resolution of certain "wake up" issues that may occur with certain third party push email solutions
• Improved handling of SMS messages to lessen stalling of messages.
• For customers using Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 with SP 2 and above, an update to VersaMail® client now includes an update to Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync® which adds Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology for push email, calendar and contacts. Also adding other EAS functionality such as remote wipe, policy support, and global address lookup

Bluetooth® wireless technology enhancements:

• Increases list of supported/compatible Bluetooth wireless carkits, including BMW and Toyota/Lexus (Denso)
• Improves overall user experience with supported Bluetooth wireless carkits and headsets (e.g. allow user to manually connect / disconnect to a Bluetooth device)
• Additional Bluetooth wireless functionality (e.g. audio routing to Bluetooth headset even when wired headset is plugged in)

No updates need for other carriers? That makes no sense.

Could be a bit of marketing spin...

"No Update Needed" ~= "No Update Available Yet"

Just a guess. The fact they've even got the logos for the carriers listed would i my mind at least hint that the text descriptor was going to change once they'd finished testing it.

If (and only if) thats true I would have thought it was better to be up front and say will be out soon and use some email or sms widget to allow users to register for notification. It is a smartphone after all. Or better yet register for SMS notification whenever an update comes out.

Heads up everyone, the 700P maintenance release was pulled due to installation issues (I had some myself).

I'm wondering how many prospective Palm Treo buyers have read the 'comment' section on the Palm Blog? It's probably not going to help sales efforts and frankly having the 'new blog' is doing little to keep those of us running the new MR up to date. From purely a business perspective, if I were Palm execs I would either update daily, remove the blog or monitor the comments so as not to damage long term Treo sales. Thoughts?

I haven't looked, but I'm sure that it's not helping sales. Honestly though, censorship of comments, excluding removing of hateful, durogatory or curse words, would more likely cause more complaints. People want to be able to read comments to see what they're getting into, and they get covered up, people are going to revolt.
