![]() | 650 upgraders report Hey folks, I had a Treo 600, upgraded to the 650 and was very happy I did. I have not been impressed with the newer versions so have held on to my trusty 650. I'd like to ask those who used a 650 and upgraded to the 700p some of the things they really like, comparatively speaking, in the upgrade, as well as some of the things they miss. In other words, should I drop everything now and make that upgrade or sit tight and cherish the functionality of my 650 for the time being. If you haven't used a 650, please don't comment, because I'm hoping to get insight in the upgrade experience based on becoming familiar with the 650 and then becoming familiar with the 700p. Thanks. |

![]() ![]() | I'll relate my experience with the 700p while owning the 650. Tho' my 650 GSM differs from the CDMA 700p and therefore the carriers differ, they're still Palm OS. I envy the 700p for the internal memory of 64mb vs my 650 measly 24mb, but that's it. I currently provide tech support to three (friends) 700p users who are Treo newbies but former TX users. They're experiencing at least one restart/reset per day. Different games, apps, Versamail, god know what else they're using, but the point is that's their life with the 700p. I'm working with them to improve their fate, but to the real point, my 650 runs sweet and stable. Ptunes, Google Maps, Mundu Radio, SnapperMail, FileMaker no problems. So if your 650 is trustworthy, I'd say get yourself a 2-4gb SD card and rock out. I hold off any upgrade 'til WiFi comes installed. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() | Rebuttal: You state that your friends are newbies to the 700P. While visiting this forum, I have come to the conclusion that many people who are inexperienced with the TREO smartphone, seem to have the most problems. I have a 700P. I have 0 resets per day. The only time my phone acts funny is when I start to add new software to it. I know how to get it to work the way it was before. I don't claim to be an expert in this, but I can find my way around the phone. The number one thing I always advise people, is slow it down on the third party apps. Many smartphone users start to add all kinds of third party apps they think are cool. Many of that software can cause issues with their smartphone. I never owned the 650. But I have many applications on my phone. The number one thing I watch out for is the updates. You will be surprised how many updates can come out and smartphone users won't know about. Well, all in all, I am very happy with my 700P. No issues, no resets, and no regrets. My e-mail works flawlessly. |

![]() | I just switched from a Treo 650 (which I used for about a year and a half) to a Treo 700p two weeks ago. The units are basically the same and there was little adjusting to be made on my part. The only thing I miss is the indicator light flashing yellow on my 650 when I had service, where it doesn't on the 700P. While I find speed on the internet to be greatly increased on the 700p, it takes longer to connect - especially when using Chatteremail and I often have to cancel the connect attempt and retry. This probably is my carrier's(Sprint) issue with Power Vision rather than a Palm issue. Bottom line is I'm glad I did the upgrade. I have much more free space, a better quality image from the camera and On Demand is fantastic. I am very happy. ![]() Don |

![]() | Thanks for your insight, cartogary. So, the 700p still uses "regular" SD cards, not those miniSD cards? I have one 512 MB and one 2GB card, wasn't sure my 650 would work with a 4GB, but if so, I'll definitely get one. |

- there were several 3rd party apps we could install on the 650 that managed the LED. I've got to imagine there would also be some that can run on the 700p that can help you out here. - little adjusting in transition, increased internet speed, more onboard space, better camera, these are selling features.

- sure, the people who have the most problems will tend to be those with the least experience, that'd be the case with just about any tech gadgets, right? - having never owned a 650, you've missed out on what made this such a big jump over the 600, as well as what a 650 users might be thinking as they discover differences with their 700p. - but, as you're able to say you're very happy with your 700p, at least I am hearing that it definitely isn't any worse (!) than the 650. I'm getting the very clear message - I can stick with my 650 if it's running solidly (which it is) but I probably won't be disappointed if I jump to the 700p. Thanks, this feedback is helpful.

![]() ![]() | hey dgarts, you're spot on with your summary the 700p no worse than the 650, I wouldn't know about talktime. But yes the SD cards are not miniSD so can go with your 2gb, wow their down to $20. Enjoy!

![]() | Overall positive My upgrade from 600 to 650 was painless, but it was not so easy when I got the 700p. Most of my 3rd party apps were designated incompatible and didn't transfer. My GlobalSat BT-338 worked flawlessly with the 650 and is finicky with the 700p, although the new firmware is supposed to address that. On the (SERIOUSLY) plus side: The awesome SDHC hack worked perfectly on the 700p using a Transcend 8GB card with no side effects. Plenty of speed to play music videos and movie clips and TomTom 6 works even better than on the 650. The Voice Memo and Docs to Go apps make up for my lost 3rd party apps, most of which had updated versions that are compatible. Overall, I think the upgrade was a good move. Now if I can just get my old SMS data to transfer . . . |
