Can SMS db be manually deleted? - Treo Forum

I cannot purge, delete or receive texts w/o the phone rebooting. I tried to delete what I think is the SMS db using Filez, but the file is locked. Has anyone else had this problems with texts?

Sounds like a corrupt database, and yes, others have had this problem. Try downloading a copy of DBFixIt and look for the SMS database in the DBFixIt application and then scan it. If it finds problems then you'll have to pay for the program in order to fix it. A free way, albeit much more work, to fix it would be to back everything up on your SD card and then do a hard reset. Then restore everything except the SMS database. Best wishes!

Thanks for the reply. Where do I configure the sync to exclude SMS? It does not appear in the Hotsync 'Custom' options. Is DBFixIt available in the Treo store?

Do you have an SD card on your device and a backup program? There is no need to hotsync to fix the problem if you do. DBFixIt can be found through the link in my signature.

SD card yes, backup program no - never needed one (fortunately!). I purchased DBFixIt and it found no errors in my db's yet the problem (and another vicious SAG issue) persists. Is there no way to delete my SMS db w/o buying yet another utility?

Another piece of information is that SafeGuard puts my phone in a boot loop.

Well, I wouldn't have purchased DBFixIt unless you had identified a problem. No matter, its a good utility to own. But you can download NVBackup, which is a free backup utility and do a backup and then do a restore. The only way I know to delete the db for free is through FileZ and you already mentioned trying that and it being locked. There are other file managers and uninstall programs, but they all cost more money. You could also try deleting the SMS app. Since its in ROM, it should come back without the troublesome DB.
