![]() | cybrainx, you did not look dumb. As mentioned there is so much to learn on a new device and often your mind is so full from absorbing everything that you may overlook things you normally wouldn't. Just look at some of my posts as proof. ![]()

Let's say, just for the sake of argument, and completely hypothetically, that missing the ICONED SIM tray was an act of monumental imbecility bordering on historical significance...... Had this blunder not been so flagrantly committed, millions.....nay, I say......billions who do not own 680s could not share in the potentially life-saving knowledge of the location of the 680 SIM tray.

![]() | Sim Card - another question Hi, I'm new to this forum, which I came across in a search for information on the Treo 680. Please forgive me for knowing very little about smartphones in general. This is probably a dumb question. I'm interested in buying one of these smartphones but I've seen that you activate the phone by inserting the sim card. First, what is the sim card for? I don't want the 680 for internet or phone service. I want it only for its PDA functions. Therefore, I don't want to buy a contract with anyone. Do I have to in order to use the phone? Does the sim card come with the phone or only with a contract? I plan on buying one on eBay but want to be sure I'm not wasting my money buying a product I won't even be able to use without a contract. Any advice or thoughts are welcome and I thank you in advance for your assistance. Call me a phone newbie. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | the sim card if for phone service on a gsm carrier such as AT T in the US or T Mobile. As long as its a gsm carrier then you would have a sim card you could get a sim card for pay as you go service without a contrcat just buy minutes. Welsome to treonauts shpshftr. |

![]() ![]() | welcome to the forum, shpshftr! the sim is for cellular service and internet capability. the sim basically tells the cell network 'hi, here i am.' if you have no intention of using a treo for those purposes, you have no need for a sim card. however, you are only using about a third of its true capability. if you want to use as a mobile pone, you will have to have a contract with at&t or t-mobile, since they are the 2 major gsm providers in the states. you may be better off purchasing a palm t|x, t5 or lifedrive if you don't plan to use the 680 as a mobile phone. if you have any other questions, fire away; we'll help if we can! |
