Holster/battery advice from medical folks

Hi -

I would like advice about the type of holster that anyone working in the medical field can give - especially medical residents, ER nurses/docs - as well as whether you use the regular, extended or super extended (big size) battery!

Thanks, Sara

I have the 750 and had the 650 and 600 before that My experience with holsters has taught me to avoid tehem. If I bump my device in a holster it comes flying out and tries to climb in the nearest toilet or find the hardest concrete to land in/on, or the topp arm doohickey breaks and the device definitely flops out.

Working in the field I find that a holster is not the optimal solution. That said, most of the people I know in the ER's use them without problems. As for the battery question, that really depends on how you use your phone. I use mine all day, and its usually dead by the end, but I have the original battery. If your doing a 12 hr rotation, you should be fine. If its longer, bring a charger to hook it up when you get some down time and you should be fine.

maybe I just need to be more careful but its easier to just use the flip case and I have grown used to that and when I try something else it does not take long to go back to the flip case.

I found a generic black nylon case for my 680 that I like a lot. It may be worn horizontally by sliding the belt through the loop on the back. The closure is Velcro and it is a good fit for the 680. Additionally, there is a metal clip affixed under the belt loop, and I can quickly grab the phone and slip it over my belt or pocket if I am just going out briefly. There is also a small metal loop for attaching to a lanyard.

I only paid about $12 for the case and found it at one of those truck stop/gas stations along the interstate--Pilot, I think. The case has a logo on the front flap that looks like an oval with the letters "MT". But I don't remember the brand name.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a good possibility and reasonably priced to boot.

Wow, flying 680's stand back! I found that a horizontal pouch style holster works best for me. And best I've found is one from Covertec. The leather covered "steel" belt clip that can rotate enough to accommodate different leg/hip positions, seated in the car, at the desktop, etc.., has prove itself repeatedly. The magnetic strap effectively secures the phone when in the pouch yet is easily retrieved and returned. I really recommend this type of belt clip pouch.

Beware of any of the plastic jaw clip holsters or pouches. They simply hang too far away from the body and are easily broken, caught on something or knocked off the belt.

Ever since I lost a cellphone with a belt-clip holster on a bus, I've used only belt-loop holsters, which cannot be bumped or even ripped off your belt. I've found the ultimate affordable solution in my local dollar store -- a magnetic-closure holster that easily accomodates a Treo 680 with a standard battery (but can probably handle a larger battery, too), for only FIVE DOLLARS.

It's no different from the ones I've seen advertised for several times the price. Its only disadvantage (like most of those others as well) is that its gaps are usable but not great for the headset jack, and not much else. (I'm using a Bluetooth stereo headset, so I don't need the jack or the volume button access.)

The local dollar store has carried two slightly different sizes. One is a snug fit for my silicone-skinned Treo 680 with standard battery. The other (which I prefer) is slightly deeper and a little wider so that the phone sits low in the holster. It's easier to pop the Treo in and out, but it won't fall out even if jostled. (An inexpensive silicone skin helps in this, so I highly recommend it for this as well as for protecting the phone from the usual bumps and bruises of ordinary use.)

For extra security, one can probably add a store-bought Velcro patch for a few bucks that would also make removing the Treo noisy and therefore a better pickpocket deterrent.

I don't know if this is a very common product in dollar stores, but they've got heaps of them in one or two near me. They seem to like to put them in a basket on the counter near the register, so look for them there. Hope this helps.

I just dont like the horizontal holster with the 750 theres not an antenna to assist getting it out. And sometimes the darn thing goes to voice mail after the first ropund of ringtone. I used the case with the 600 and 650 but I was always afraid that I would break the antenna again. It broke after several falls from the holster.
