Text messages not allowed?

Hi, don't know if anybody out there has seen this problem before, but I'm a
bit lost with it - searched Google and only managed to find a screenshot of
the problem - no answers.

Anyway, I have Just tried to send a text message and got an error which
reads "Your service plan does not allow you to send text messages. (Contact
your service provider for detalls)" - This is wrong, I have successfully sent
and received several already today!

I had this problem last week, and my first thought was maybe the number
was wrong, In that case I texted another friend and got a different number
for the person the error happened with, and the new number worked - so
that added up - but I tried to text the same person again later in the week
and got the same message - with the new number?!?

I'm trying to send to a different person today, someone I've not texted in
a long time, so the number could easily be wrong - but as I got the error
with a good number, I don't trust it.

I tried a restart - but no good - I'm on Orange in the UK - but they don't
know I'm using a Treo, so thought I'd try here first!!!

welcome to treonauts ben glad you are here sorry you're having problems. I can receive text message but not send them on cingularly att here in the Us I have a data plan but not signed up to send texts I guess is my issue but I dont usually need to send text messages so its not that big a deal for me. You might back everrything up and do a hard reset. Have you added any third party programs sometimes they can hijack settings.

I think the main problem would be 3rd party apps, if you installed any. How long has it been doing this?

also double check your message center settings, make sure the number entered there is correct for your network carrier (i.e. Orange for you)

Press the message button, then access the menu items
Preferences -> Network, press Edit button when manual is selected, make sure the Message centre number is correct including the country code and the plus sign.
