Thumbs down Treo 680 problems

I'm having nothing but problems with my 680. Dies for no reason - even during a call. No notice that it has cut itself off until you realize it's off when you're about to use it. Battery(ies) are good. Has lost data (significant) during hot syncs - which has NEVER happened in my many years of using Palms. I want to stay with AT&T but feel the need to make a change in my phone - it's driving my family and me crazy. I've only ever used Palm so want to know if the Windows versions will incorporate my old Palm data. What about iPhone? I hate to lose ANY MORE of my many years' worth of address and contact data. Any advice?

Is this a new issue? Have you had ATT replace your phone yet?

I wouldn't go that route first, but its an option. Are you able to back up your info at all, either by a backup program or hotsync? If so, make a backup, and hard reset your device, then re-sync your info back on and see if you still have problems.

I've been able to hot sync data - but from the beginning I get many duplicates and/or find things missing. It has been very frustrating because I really have depended on Palm for MANY years - no hard calendars or address books kept since my first Palm Pilot. So, not happy. With the added frustration of missing texts and/or calls because it has quietly turned itself off, I'm ready to pitch it! I appreciate your insight and helpfulness and will back it up, hard reset and sync again. Will then try to get AT&T to help out - right.

In the event I do change phones altogether what options do I have that will import into new device my calendar and contacts, tasks, etc.? And, is Windows a better OS option than Palm?

thanks so much

If you have to change phones all together, there are ways to move the databases directly from phone to phone, but we'll cross that bridge if we get there.

As for the age old WM vs Palm debate, its really a matter of personal preference. Your best bet is to play with both, and decide whats right for you. Since you've been using Palm OS for a long time, WM would require a bit of re-learning, but I'm sure you'd be fine in no time at all.

i recently got a treo 680, and I had to migrate my contacts from palm tx to it.
i use a MAC running the missing sync on it, and all the contacts are stored on the mac, so had no problems moving contacts, calendars etc.

I didn't lose any data, I dont know if this helps.

Martha, I would suggest that you backup your data, hard reset, as forgot suggested, but then I'd create a new HotSync ID and restore only the OEM software initially. If what you're experiencing is a shutdown that's not due to battery failure, then we're looking at a software conflict issue. And since you've been a long time Palm OS owner, some of those older apps and files in your original HotSync Backup folder may be causing this issue. I'd try this approach before replacing the phone. You can reinstall you apps and files slowly while testing for stability. I'd suggest a trial download of UnInstall Manager from Northglide so you can purge something if need be.

good advice from cartogary and if that does not work and you want to change to winmob as longa s your data on the desktop is up to date then you should have no problems switching over to the 750 thhat was my experience in switching from the 650 to the 750 about a year and a half ago.
