Unhappy Treo 680 cannot complete synch w/Windows XP

My AT&T 680 cannot synch with either of two PCs. The address book will synch if I remove all other apps and set it for handheld to override desktop. Datebook never synchs and wipes out what is already on the desktop. I've removed all data from the desktop and tried synching with it all empty Still doesn't complete. Can't add any applications till I get this problem solved. Thanks for your thoughts.

Did you hard reset your phone after you wiped the data from your desktop ?

What do you mean by wiping data ? Removing a sync data profile or just data alone such as your calendar entries ?

Welcome Linda,

Like Vlad, I'd like to more info to diagnose the issue. Are you syncing with Outlook or Palm Desktop? Is this a new installation, I mean did you just install the Palm software on your PC w/XP? You may want to re-install the Palm Desktop from the CD. Also, two PCs, like work and home? Or has the 680 been working fine and now for some reason this syncing issue has showed up?

Once, I did a hard reset. When that didn't fix it I removed the files of the address book and date book. I'm syncing with Palm Desktop. It is an upgrade. I followed the directions at first and then uninstalled and reinstalled the OS. The CD I got had no OS on it so I downloaded the latest version from the Palm site. The sync never worked for this device. I had been syncing a palm T/X with no difficulty for several years.

Hiya Linda, and welcome to Treonauts. First, I would recommend trying setting both calendar and datebook to do nothing during the sync and then try hotsync. If it completes the Hotsync, then go back into Hotsync and set them to normal. Then re-hotsync and see if it still hangs. If it does, it may mean you have some corruption on your device. Try downloading TealScan from Tealpoint.com and scan the device for corrupt PIM info. If the scan finds anything, click on each item and then click on Info, then fix. Once everything is fixed, then try hotsyncing again. If none of this works, then try re-downloading the Palm Desktop as it might not have configured correctly. Good luck and post back with an update.

As Stuart advises, try syncing with calendar and datebook set to Do Nothing. If it completes the HotSync without error messages then it's a corrupt database issue. Since you've been using a TX, setting up a different HotSync ID for the 680 could help as well.

Also, there a torrent on mininova for the Palm Desktop 4.2 which is the Palm OS from the 680 CD, you've probably got the 4.14 OS from the Palm site, it may not make a difference. Keep posting your status.
