Have you got the latest firmware installed? What is it now 1.09, 1.10? I'm on ATT so mine's 1.09-ATT.

Since this an unlocked 680, see if you can find someone with an ATT SIM and swap it out for a call. I'm guessing, if it still flickers then it's the hardware/phone. If not then it's the SIM. If you're going to Hamburg, aren't going get a prepaid SIM there or does your Tmobile SIM work? I'm still convinced it's in the connection circuit/SIM interface module.

My firmware is 1.12-ROW
My cell provider is T-Mobile Deutschland and I roam in US . I tried a friends ATT sim two days ago , same effect .

well is obviously the phone and a hardware issue. I haven't noticed anything similar with my 750.

Second phone in a row ? I honesty don't want to go back to windows . My techs keep telling me to go back to htc . Something that I am trying to avoid . I'm going to wait , on cartogary's opinion for now .

Thanks.

Frozen,

I'm at a lose as to explain this, especially since you've changed out the phone and the SIMs. I guess it could be that you got two faulty 680's in a row, [Palm did really send you a totally different phone, they didn't "repair" yours?], but what are the chances of that.

"Your Techs" haven't had their hands on this phone have they? I mean I've had a couple of 680s apart now but my experience is that Tech's aren't as painstakingly cautious in their disassemble/assembling of hardware, and I'm wondering if there's a fault on the keyboard circuit board itself and it's somehow shorting in contact with the motherboard, a crack in the ribbon or some other electronic glitch.

To rehash the issue: the flicker is only when you're on a call or the Web. So typing in Calendar or Memo or Docs To Go = no flicker? If that's the case, the PDA side is fine, then the Phone side is at fault. Since SIMs don't seem to make a difference, it's internal in the wireless circuitry. You've probably come to this logical conclusion yourself.

So what's the remedy? Well, I'm a Palm OS advocate, so IMO I won't recommend any WMx wannabe device, and BBs aren't all that smart, HTC is trophy/geewhiz device. Thus my counsel is to evaluate what you need a smartphone to do for you. I love the keyboard spacing and feel of the 680, the OS is dated but stable, available 3rd party apps, are all perfect for my needs. (running FileMaker, MP3, TimeReporter, Agendus, SnapperMail etc..)

Bottom line: if it was me, I'd return the phone to the vendor, and get/buy a NEW unopened, never used, unlocked, virgin 680 (in Copper, my fav). ISTS this flicker issue on this phone doesn't sound like it can be repaired without a tech intervention or an exorcizm. Not what you wanta hear given you travel plans and time availability, but it seems a replacement is your only opinion in the near term.

Good Luck

Yes, they did. As soon as I got the replacement , I had to send the one i originally purchased, back to palm.

"My Techs" have not had their hands on the treo . I trust them but , not enough to mess with the treo . They are WM and crackberry guys .

Yes , only during web and email sessions . During memo or docs to go it does not flicker .

Most of the blackberry's are branded and don't work too well in eastern europe . They tend to crash on me when I roam. I hate HTC with a passion . "Long story" I honestly don't want to leave palm os .

I might do that in the future ,if I get lucky with time . Exorcism , eh ? As much as I love halloween, no more torture . I think the rom, might be the issue . As far as luck goes ,thanks . Though I don't believe in it .

Angry An ugly update .

Ladies and gentlemen ,
As of today I am on my third treo and after 4 hours of purchasing the phone. I get the same ol' flickering . Then I get the white screen of death . The phone has been blank since I have bought it . I've hard reset the phone . I get the start up screen ,then it goes white . The phone has been returned but I will never go back to palm . Not after this stint . Still got the treo that I got in NYC. Working with that, for now .
