Treo 680 resets itself

My treo 680 is 15 months old. 3rd party software has not been added recently. Yesterday phone started resetting itself, turning itself off/on several times then in phone screen, when go to select a call recipient, resets itself too. Today, I discover that it won't hot sync. It resets itself instead, repeatedly. It's through cingular, any ideas? Thanks! Is there a newer better treo for palm coming soon?

The sympoms you describe could be one of several things. I would start by saving all your data to your SD card and then doing a warm reset and see how things work then (work with it for a while and try doing a hotsync). Then do a soft reset. Then see if things are working any better. If that doesn't work, then do a hard reset and a selective restore of apps and preferences. If that doesn't work, call you carrier and ensure that your phone is correctly configured and provisioned. If none of that works, it is likely a hardware problem. Not sure the hotsync issues and the turning on and off issues are related. They may be two separate problems. In any event, keep us posted as you work through this and we'll see if we can give you any more tips. I'm sorry you're having such problems.

the way you describe the problem looks like a case of corrupted records or applications. try saving your recent data to a backup card if you havent sync before. that if the data is important but if not and you were able to save some of your stuffs from previous hotsync, why don't you just try doing the hard reset. resync your device to your PC but this time try creating a new usename. if the hotsync pushes through without errors. then try using your phone by calling a friend or send an sms to your peers. if everything goes out well, you can import your important informations from the old username to the new username. by the way, what application did you choose to manage your information? is it palm desktop or microsoft outlook?

Unhappy HotSync does not work on any computer

I have a new (less than two months) Treo 680--AT&T. I have never been able to successfully synch with any computer. I have been on endlessly with both AT&T and Palm support. Each time they put me through the same routine. Hard reset. Set synch to only synch address, Date Book and Memo. Handheld overrides computer. Never works. Gets stuck in same place each time--Date Book at 2 items complete. Any thoughts will be welcome.

If the new user thing doesn't work out, first try going into the Hotsync icon (on desktop) > settings > applications > configure and set date book to do nothing. Then hotsync and see if it goes through the entire way. IF it does, go back into Hotsync icon and set the date book to hotsync and hotsync again. Sometimes that is enough to get it working. If it still doesn't work, try downloading a trial of TealScan from TealPoint.com and scan your device's PIM data. You may have some corrupt PIM data. If it shows any corrupt data, hit the info button and then fix, and then hotsync again and everything should work fine.
