Treo 680 Blackberry connect and activsync

When I first got my 680 I used the activsync client.
I would get a notice on my palm of new e-mail but my work server was not pushing it to the phone.
My IT department had no clue, we have many smartphone users that use activsync without issues (these are non-palm devices)

So I switched to blackberry connect.
This seems to work fine on my phone, no issues with e-mail.
But my contacts are not synced over the air.
I cannot open attachments in e-mail.

Now that there is a new phone update for activsync, I would like to try it again.
But it will disable blackberry connect.

Is there a way for me just to install the activsync only, and try it again. If the same problem is there, go back to blackberry connect?
